Despite rumors circulating online on almost a weekly basis for the past couple of years, Rockstar Games has remained adamant that GTA 6 isn’t in development.

Now, to the surprise of absolutely nobody, Rockstar Games has now officially confirmed that GTA 6 is in active development,

In a recent Rockstar Newswire post, the studio discussed what fans can expect in the future from the Grand Theft Auto series, confirming they are in active development for the next entry in the series.

“With the unprecedented longevity of GTAV, we know many of you have been asking us about a new entry in the Grand Theft Auto series. With every new project we embark on, our goal is always to significantly move beyond what we have previously delivered — and we are pleased to confirm that active development for the next entry in the Grand Theft Auto series is well underway. We look forward to sharing more as soon as we are ready, so please stay tuned to the Rockstar Newswire for official details.”

Along with this exciting news, Rockstar Games also detailed what players can expect from GTA Online in the coming months.

Recently, GTA Online saw hip-hop icon Dr. Dre come to the game as part of The Contract expansion.

“To ensure everyone can easily experience the fun of Short Trips, players will soon be able to access Short Trips directly from the Jobs menu without completing The Contract’s story missions.”

Dr. Dre’s music from the game will also be hitting streaming platforms today, so make sure to look out for them if you want to listen to the tracks outside of the game.

Rockstar Games also confirmed that GTA V: Expanded and Enhanced will be launching on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S on March 15th, offering “up to 4K resolution, up to 60 frames per second, texture and draw distance upgrades, HDR options and ray-tracing, as well as offering the technical advancements of the latest console generation with faster loading times, immersive 3D audio, platform-specific features like advanced haptic feedback, and much more.”

When it comes to GTA 6, we’re not expecting the game to launch any time soon. Recent rumors have suggested that the game won’t arrive until 2024 and 2025 and judging by previous timelines for games developed by Rockstar Games, this date likely is fairly accurate.
