With the commercial success of the brand-new action role-playing game Elden Ring, From Software has made headlines in the gaming niche. But the company was talked about not only for positive reasons.

From Software employees, past and present have reported terrible working experiences from alleged low wages to poor working conditions. While there are recent reports about these experiences, a lot of these issues go back to over a decade ago.

On the popular job board, Career Connection, From Software currently has a rating of 2.6 out of 5.0 stars. The company also has a rating of 2.2 for employees’ job satisfaction, 1.9 for compensation, and 2.6 for stress management. As for workplace intensity, the company was rated by employees for 4.2.

According to reports, the compensation is exceptionally low in terms of workload with an average annual income of 3.4 million Japanese Yen. That’s less than 30 thousand USD a year. Considering that the company is based in Tokyo, the annual income is low for the city’s high cost of living.

Moreover, reports say that the working conditions at From Software are particularly worse for women.

“There are no special treatments for pregnancy and childcare,” said one designer. She also added that with this kind of maltreatment, “most female employees who are about to give birth are expected to leave the company.”

Some reviews even suggest that there had been instances of sexual harassment in the past.

The overall policy being unjust for women can possibly be attributed to From Software’s lack of female employees.

While the company is still riding on Elden Ring’s success, they are yet to comment on these alleged terrible working experiences.
