EA and Marvel Games confirms new Iron Man video game

EA and Marvel Games Iron Man

Marvel Games is teaming up with Electronic Arts to introduce us to an all-new single-player, third-person, action-adventure Iron Man video game.

The game is currently in development at Montreal-based Motive Studio. The same team is responsible for a Marvel experience that brought us titles like Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy. Big names such as Ian Frazier (Mass Effect: Andromeda), Olivier Proulx (Deus Ex: Mankind Divided), Maëlenn Lumineau (Immortals: Fenyx Rising), and JF Poirier (Star Wars: Squadrons) are all part of the team.

“Developed in collaboration with Marvel Games, the game will feature an original narrative that taps into the rich history of Iron Man, channeling the complexity, charisma, and creative genius of Tony Stark, and enabling players to feel what it’s like to truly play as Iron Man.”

Although the reception of the previous Marvel instalment, the Marvel’s Avengers from Crystal Dynamics, was filled with irks and criticisms from the gaming community, they have fully redeemed themselves with the massive success of Insomniac’s Spider-Man. This was paired with the entry of the underdog, Square Enix’s Guardians of the Galaxy.

With the tides starting to favor Marvel Games, EA confirmed that they plan to release a series of several games in the foreseeable future. First of the series is their partnership with Electronic Arts to bring us the much anticipated action-adventure game.

“We are thrilled to collaborate with the talented team at Motive Studio to bring their original vision of one of Marvel’s most important, powerful and beloved characters. Their experience delivering both established entertainment worlds and thrilling gameplay — combined with their authentic passion for the armored icon — will fuel our quest to deliver a love letter to a legendary hero in the form of the ultimate Iron Man video game.”

The potential of the Iron Man game

Unlike other superheroes, the seemingly endless creative genius of Tony Stark carves a potential to tap new features for a Marvel Games instalment. This and the gaming history of EA are a perfect combination to provide us with a fresh take on the narrative of superhero games, mainly if they stick to the rich history of the man with many suits in both the comics and movies.

With multiple suits for an array of scenarios, terrain, and functions, Tony Stark can be a subject for game developers to provide the players with a look at a redefined possibility of the usual action-adventure genre. With the advancement of gaming technology, they would also be able to add features like creating and customising new armors, or a wide variety of skins.

Imagine JARVIS and his epic voiceover giving us the tutorial sequence of the game and helping us through the navigation on our adventure.

With the involvement of Olivier Proulx, who was the executive producer of the surprise success of Square Enix’s Guardians of the Galaxy, we can expect an immersive gameplay experience of similar nature in the action-adventure genre. The game is currently in its pre-production stage.

The future of Marvel Games

It was during the D23 Expo that the Marvel Games revealed what they have lined up for their gamer fans. Aside from the recently confirmed game of Tony Stark that they have with Electronic Arts, Marvel Games has also teamed up with Disney to give us a ‘rumored’ Captain America and Black Panther game.

The game will be set in the WW2 era. Tracing history from the perspective of comic books, This was the time when Azzuri, T’Challa’s grandfather, was praised for his unwavering valiance in defending Wakanda from the impending Hydra invasion. The duo will be joined by two other playable characters, a soldier named Gabriel Jones and a spy from Wakanda named Nanali.

The Youtube channel of Marvel Entertainment posted a video of the D23 Expo confirming the rumor.
