Destiny 2 “The Witch Queen” Expansion Delayed Until 2022

Unfortunately, it looks like Destiny fans will have to wait for the latest and greatest upcoming expansion for the game as Destiny 2′ expansion “The Witch Queen” has been delayed until early 2022.

The Witch Queen Delayed

In a massive developer update for Destiny 2, detailing what’s to come in the game this year, Joe Blackburn states:

“The Witch Queen represents an important evolution in the ongoing story of Destiny 2. Beyond Light built the foundation and allowed us to weave the world-building of Destiny and Destiny 2 together, but The Witch Queen will light the fire on a strongly interconnected narrative across Lightfall and beyond, unlike anything we’ve ever attempted before, with characters, arcs, heroes and villains that persist over multiple future releases. Even more importantly, the conclusion of these releases will also conclude the “Light and Darkness Saga,” the conflict we first introduced with the launch of Destiny many years ago. As we’ve been developing The Witch Queen, we realized that we needed this release to be the first of many moments crucial to the story of Destiny. With so much leading to and dependent on what happens in The Witch Queen, we wanted to make sure that we gave ourselves enough time to build out this journey in the right way, starting with an exceptional first chapter in The Witch Queen”

So it looks like The Witch Queen might end up being a much bigger expansion than what we previously thought and that is very good news; this means that we can expect more and (hopefully) better content.

It also looks like COVID-19 played a bit of a part in delaying The Witch Queen, but with everything going on in the world, that was pretty much expected.

What Else is Coming in 2021?

This Destiny 2 update came with many more announcements alongside the delay of The Witch Queen, so here’s everything that we know is coming to Destiny 2 in 2021 from the latest Bungie Dev update:

  • Power cap lowered to +10 rather than +50 per each non-expansion season (Season 14)
  • Infusion caps removed (Season 14)
  • Emotes disabled in Trials of Osiris and Competitive (Season 15)
  • Disable third-person weapons that don’t have ammo in Trials of Osiris and Competitive (Season 15)
  • Stasis adjustments in Crucible (Season 13/14)
  • Changes to Trials of Osiris reward structure
  • Stasis Energy and Power weapons (Season 15)
  • Vault of Glass Reprisal (Season 14)
  • Master Vault of Glass
  • Master Dungeons
  • Transmog (Season 14)
  • Crossplay (Season 15)
  • Gilded Titles 2.0 (Season 14)

We’ve got a ton of stuff coming to Destiny 2 in 2021, so while the delay of The Witch Queen expansion means we won’t be seeing that until later next year, we aren’t going to be completely out of luck for the rest of the year.
