Beat Saber PSVR2 development confirmed

Beat Saber is one of the most popular games to reach the world of Virtual Reality, played by millions across the globe on the popular PSVR and Occulus. And now, players have had it confirmed there will be a Beat Saber PSVR2 version.

Featuring music from popular artists including Green Day, Fall Out Boy, Linken Park, Imagine Dragons, Lady Gaga, plus many more, the fast-paced rhythm game is fun for all, and is set to expand to a whole new level of block smashing with the release of the PSVR2.

After Beat Saber was purchased by Meta in 2019, fans were unsure how this would impact the future of Beat Saber on the Playstation. Or if any future releases would be restricted to strictly the Occulus.

But as confirmed by Sony Playstation, development is underway for its release on the PSVR2.

Sony previously released a statement that the PSVR2 would not be backward compatible, which did leave players of the sword-wielding game wondering if they’d be able to play Beat Saber on the future VR headset.

Hideaki Nishino, the Senior Vice President at Sony Interactive Entertainment, revealed in an Official PlayStation Podcast, that “PSVR games are not compatible with PSVR2, because PSVR2 is designed to deliver a truly next-generation VR experience”.

Nishino stated the PVSR2 hardware – inside-out tracking and eye-tracking, 3D audio, a 4K HDR display, and its controller with adaptive triggers and haptic feedback – meant “developing games for PSVR2 requires a whole different approach than the original PSVR.”

However, following the Sony CES 2023 presentation, Jim Ryan, President and CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment, announced Beat Saber PSVR2 would be available as a free launch upgrade.

With no confirmed release date for the PSVR2, we don’t yet know when Beat Saber PSVR2 will be available to play, but to hear it is in the development stages is exciting news! We certainly can’t wait to try it!
