Video game publisher Annapurna Interactive held a showcase on the 29th of July 2021, in which they announced games, updates and more.

The main part of the Annapurna Interactive Showcase revolved around the cyberpunk exploration cat game ‘’Stray’’ and an expansion and a Switch release for ‘’Outer Wilds’’.

Stray

Indeed, Stray was announced in 2020 at Sony’s PlayStation 5 reveal event, however, the AI showcase gave us an extra look and a release date for the highly anticipated game. In the BlueTwelve Studio game, you play as a stray cat trying to figure how to escape an android filled world. Stray seems to combine moments of peaceful tranquillity, problem-solving, and some not so friendly encounters to create a fun and atmospheric game. The game will be released on PS4, PS5 and PC in 2022! The team explained that they do not want to comprise quality or the team’s health.

Outer Wilds

The critically acclaimed 2019 sci-fi action-adventure game was also featured at the Annapurna Interactive Showcase 2021 with news of a Nintendo Switch release date. The announcement revealed that the release would be around October 2021. More importantly, creative director Alex Beachum announced a “first and only expansion” for the game called Echoes of the Eye. This expansion will be released on September 28th.

Neon White

Ben Esposito says Neon White is a game for freaks. He wanted to create a cult game like the cult games that influenced him. Neon white is a first-person shooter that revolves around speedrunning. Ben Esposito released a trailer at the Annapurna interactive Showcase 2021 which shows off some unique game mechanics as well as teasing a winter release for PC and Nintendo Switch.

A Memoir Blue

A literal change of pace from the last game. A Memoir Blue is an indie title created by Cloisters. It’s an aquatic-themed game in which you get to explore a beautiful narrative around family. Set to be released on Xbox, Playstation, Steam, Nintendo Switch and IOS at later date.

Storyteller

The next game on the Annapurna Interactive Showcase 2021 list is Storyteller, a unique indie puzzle game. The game gives players the tools to weave their own stories. The only requirement is that the story fits the title.

Unannounced Projects

The Annapurna interactive Showcase also delivered on future projects. They are teaming with the likes of Jessica Mak (Everyday Shooter), No Code (Observation) and Outerloop Games (Falcon Age) on future projects we know little about yet.

The 2021 Showcase also had the creator of The Stanley Parable, Davey Wreden, along with co-creator of Gone Home, Tacoma Karla Zimonja, and Minecraft composer C418, Daniel Rosenfeld drinking tea and casually announcing a new studio called Ivy Road. Now, this is something to look out for.

Skin Deep

Finally, Skin Deep was announced. Set to be released at a later date on Steam, it’s all about hunting space pirates and shooting guns. The twist is the mechanics centred around a sneeze meter and gross physical problems (like being smelly, body injuries…).
