Players with 2K accounts are warned not to open emails and click links from their support page, as the game developer confirms they were hacked.

As a user of an email address, paid or free, most of us are aware of spoof emails and email addresses pretending to be legitimate companies asking us for confidential information or providing us links that we need to click. They are fairly easy to identify. However, this is not the case for the recent incident involving 2K users.

It was confirmed by 2K Support itself has been sending malicious emails to its users as a result of the website being hacked. This means that you would get an email from the actual 2K Support email address and will be asked to either provide your account credentials or click links that would lead to your account being hacked as well.

2K Support confirms emails look legitimate after it was hacked

Due to the legitimacy of where the emails came from, this would easily be caught by even the most stringent anti-virus software. It would also make sense that even the most cautious of us may have fallen prey to it, given that it came straight from the website, with no malicious email addresses or domains.

If you are one of those that have either provided their account credentials or if you did click a link from an email that came from 2K Support, the game developer urges you to change your passwords in your browser immediately. Take note that browsers have auto-fill, like Google Chrome. After doing that, make sure to run an extensive or full scan of your device using your anti-virus program or install one if you do not have one yet and use multiple ways of securing your account, like double authentication. You also need to double-check the settings of your email address for any possible email forwarding settings that may have been done to the account.

2K Support

The 2K Support website was forced to go offline today, as the number of victims of the hacking continues to grow. The game developer also reminded their customers that they would never ask for your credentials, nor will ask for personal information without giving you further details as to why they are needed.

As of writing, the website continues to be offline as they progress in making sure that no other players would fall into the schemes of the hacker. 2K Support mentioned that they will release an announcement as soon as the website is back up.

Among the big names that have cracked in this string of cyber attacks is Rockstar Games, after the recently posted videos of GTA 6 gameplay and even the threats to sell the source code of the soon-to-be-released game. There was also Activision Blizzard, where footage of their installment of the Diablo series was leaked online.

Although both 2K and Rockstar are from the same parent account, Take-Two Interactive, there is no sufficient evidence that both cyber attacks were linked. Although, if they share the same form of security measure, then knowing how to crack one website could make the other vulnerable.
