The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Geralt of Rivia

Geralt video game beards

To start the list with a bang, we have Geralt of Rivia, also known as ”The White Wolf”, the protagonist of the bestselling The Witcher series by Andrzej Sapkowski, and is acclaimed video-game adaptations, developed by CD Projekt Red.

Yeah, I know, Geralt doesn’t have a beard in the books, but CDPRs idea of giving the witcher one was spot on since not only makes him look even more intimidating, and gave their version of the character a distinctive look, it also made sure you will never be happy with your beard ever again. Let it grow they say…

Assassin’s Creed: Revelations – Ezio

Ezio Auditore da Firenze is for many the best protagonist of the Assassin’s Creed series, which for a series that has dozens of titles, it’s one hell of an achievement.

And he made sure to hold the title proudly in Assassin’s Creed: Revelations, released in 2011, where fans were presented to a more mature and experienced Ezio, whose main feature was his now grayish beard, as he shows all his mastery by sending Templar after Templar to the afterlife in the games opening cinematic.

Gears of War 4 – Marcus Fenix

Something that many characters in this list have in common is the fact that their change in look wasn’t just cosmetical, but a reflection of who they were at moment, their struggles, their losses, their victories, the sweet and bitter.

Marcus Fenix’s visual on Gears of War 4 reflects that and much more, showing us an old soldier that gave all he could, a wounded hound, always ready to bite back.

Metal Gear Solid: Peace Eater / Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes / Phantom PainBig Boss

Who is more bad-ass than the Big Boss himself?

Just like Ezio, Snake grows his beard through the games, and making it, together with his eye-patch, one of his trademarks. As you can see above, in his portrayal in Metal Gear Solid: Peace Eater.

We can’t reveal more without risking spoiling one of the best franchises in gaming history, but one thing we are sure of, it’s really hard to imagine the character without his trademark beard.

God of War (2018) – Kratos

Thought we were leaving him out?

To close the list of video game beards, we have the award for 2018s Father of the Year and the former ”Ghost of Sparta,” Kratos.

Nobody can forget the moment when Santa Monica Studios revealed the acclaimed God of War, which featured a new look for Kratos, who replaced its goatee for a full-on beard, making him even more fearsome and fully ready to take on some of his toughest foes and take part in some of the most insane battles of the franchise. Who knew Kratos could become even more of a badass?
