V Rising: How to get Animal Hides and what to use them for

Last Updated on: 25th June 2022, 10:30 pm

Animal hides are a key resource that is needed in the early game to progress the story in V Rising, but finding them can be hard in the large world that Stunlock has made for us.

It can be the first of a few potential brick walls if you get lost in the starting graveyard farming skeletons for bones, leaving you feeling frustrated at the lack of animal hides in the drops there.

Leaving the graveyard

The Graveyard is a safe place for new players to farm for bones and rats but lacks many other significant resources. Leaving the graveyard means that you get access to copper, wood, and most significantly in this case animal hides.

Make sure you stock up on rats before leaving though, as they’re much easier to grab here.

Animal hides in V rising

Animal hides are a common drop from most fauna, such as deer, wolves and occasional Moose in V Rising, dropping in quantities ranging from 10-20 to 200 or even 300 depending on the nature of many beasts you slay. Most also drop bones, which can help increase another resource at the same time if you didn’t get enough from the skeletons before.

The best places early to farm animal hides are just near the starting areas of the world. Wandering around the forests just outside of the graveyards can yield a bunch of free stuff from the local bandits and the indiscriminate murder of the local wildlife, just be careful you don’t get caught out in the sun.

Horses also drop animal hide, but they are far more useful as mounts!

Turning animal hides into Leather

Leather is crafted or dropped as a mid-game resource, that you can produce using animal hides and a tanning rack.

The tanning rack is a drop you get from defeating the level 20 boss Keely the Frost Archer, who also drops a cool ice spell that freezes enemies. Excessive amounts of animal hides can be turned into another very useful resource, leather.

So don’t feel bad for murdering swathes of deer as you prance your vampire around the world. If you haven’t already, you should go read the patch notes for the latest release of V Rising to keep yourself up to date.
