Nintendo Switch Sports: All Sports and Game Modes
The latest addition in the Wii Sports series, Nintendo Switch Sports has a total of six sports both old and new.
These sports include Tennis, Bowling, and Chambara which we have seen in previous installments. Additionally, we have Football/Soccer, Volleyball, and Badminton which are new additions to the game.
In this article, we will discuss these sports and give you an overview of how you can play them.
Tennis
While real-life tennis requires you to grip your rackets tightly and timely swing them with just enough force, Nintendo Switch Sports requires you to use your Joy-Con. This sport also allows you to do a topspin or a lob shot!
Tennis can be played by 1-4 people in Doubles mode.
Bowling
We know. Bowling balls are heavy! But with your Joy-con, you can swing your virtual bowling ball without breaking a sweat.
Moreover, there are three alternate modes for Bowling. These are:
- Standard – Your basic bowling mode
- Special – A little difficult with obstacles in front
- Elimination – Bowl against other players online and either eliminate them or get eliminated
If you want to be at the top of your game in Bowling, check out our Nintendo Switch Sports Bowling Guide.
Bowling can be played by 1-16 people.

Chambara
If you love sword fights, this is the sport for you.
In Chambara, fight for your life and drive your rival off the edge of the platform and let them drown in the water below. In this sport, you can swing your virtual sword and/or block your rival’s strikes.
Moreover, you can use a sword of your choice from three options. These are:
- Sword – The standard sword
- Twin Swords – Two swords which means you have to use two Joy-Cons
- Charge Sword – Absorb blows and use charged attacks
Chambara can be played by 1-2 people.
Volleyball
In Volleyball, you have to work together with your partner and use your Joy-Con to serve, bump, set, and spike the ball.
Volleyball can be played by 1-4 people.
Badminton
Like Tennis, you have to grip your Joy-Con like a racket in Badminton. You can also strategize your strikes by doing smash shots or drop shots.
Badminton can be played by 1-2 people.
Football/Soccer
In this sport, you have to run into position and send the soccer ball flying into your opponent’s back net.
Football/Soccer has 4 modes. These are:
- One-on-One – Play against another player
- Four-on-Four – Team up with three other players and play against a team of four which can be played online
- Free Practice – Try controlling your hits on your own
- Shoot-Out – Kick the soccer ball into the goal using your legs. Here, the Nintendo Switch Leg Strap is required.
If you want to know where to get the Nintendo Switch Leg Strap, check out our guide on where you can get them and how you can use them.
