Hogwarts Legacy Character Creation Guide: Create yourself as a Wizard/Witch

After many years of mediocre Harry Potter games and a lengthy stint of no games from the Wizarding World, Hogwarts Legacy has finally changed that with an early game-of-the-year contender.

Hogwarts Legacy thrusts you into the Wizarding World in the 1800s and allows you to transport yourself virtually into the world with its extensive character creation suite.

Here is everything you need to know about making a character in Hogwarts Legacy.

Welcome To Hogwarts

Upon starting a new game of Hogwarts Legacy you will receive a letter from the Deputy Headmistress Professor Weasley, an ancestor of Ron Weasley.

“We are pleased to inform you that you have been accepted at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry as a fifth-year student.

Term begins on 1 September.

Preliminary supplies have been collected for you and will accompany you on your journey to the castle.

As you may be aware, the Decree for the Reasonable Restriction of Underage Sorcery prohibits the use of magic by those under the age of seventeen outside school. However, due to your unique circumstances, the Ministry has graciously agreed to allow Professor Elezar Fig to help you hone your spell-casting before escorting you from London to the castle for the start-of-term feast and the Sorting Ceremony.

Once you have read your acceptance letter it is time to start creating your character. Hogwarts Legacy features a deep level of customization so you should have no problem creating a character that at least somewhat resembles you. Or you can create a character that looks nothing like you, which is something I typically choose to do.

Choose Your Preset

To start, you can choose from one of 30 preset characters, with them being incredibly varied in terms of sex, skin color, race, etc, which will help you get off to a good start. Once you choose the one you’re most happy with you can progress to the next section.

Facewear

Next, you can choose from a number of face shapes, further sculpting your character to be how you envision them. Once you have the face shape locked in you can change the skin color, choosing from a variety of tones ranging from very light skin to dark skin. Finally, you can choose whether you character wears glasses or not.

Hairstyles

Your hairstyle is one of the most defining features, so this is something that you will surely want to get perfect. There are many options to choose from ranging from short to long, as well as hair associated with different ethnicities, with there being an option for everyone.

Complexion

You will be able to alter the complexion of your character and choose what moles and freckles they have. You can also give them cool-looking battle scars if you want it to look like your character has seen some things.

Eyebrows

The shape of your eyebrows can completely alter your face, so Avalanche Studios has given you plenty of options to choose from to compliment the face of your character.

Finalizing Your Character

Once you have finished altering the appearance of your character it is time to finalize your Witch or Wizard.

This involves choosing which voice you want to use, with there being two different options. There is also a pitch slider to make the voice lower or higher in pitch and it can be moved in either direction regardless of which gender your character presents as.

It is worth noting that, at least at launch, if you have the pitch slider anywhere but in the middle, it can make the voice sound robotic. Hopefully, this is fixed in the future, but as of right now, you can either put up with the robotic voice or keep it in the middle of the slider.

Next, choose the difficulty you want to play the game at, name your character, and choose whether they are a Witch or a Wizard. This option determines the dormitory your character is in, whether it is occupied by male or female-presenting NPCs.

Hogwarts Legacy will be released on February 10, 2023, on PC via Steam and Epic Games Store, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S. The game will also be released on PS4 and Xbox One on April 4, 2023, and on Nintendo Switch on July 25, 2023.
