Elden Ring Guide: Where to Get Smithing Stones in the Early Game?

Smithing stones are consumable materials that you can use to upgrade your weapons at a smithing table in the Church of Elleh or at Smithing Master Hewg at the Roundtable Hold.

This weapon upgrade material will help you land heavy hits, making it a little easier for you to defeat enemies along the way.

While exploring is something an adventurer normally does in any RPG game, challenging enemies are almost everywhere in The Lands Between.

And if you’re just starting out, it’s almost impossible to explore without a specific direction.

If not careful, you could lose your precious runes or waste more time than necessary. Thus, it’s important to know where exactly you can farm this item in the early game.

EAST OF STORMHILL SHACK

At the eastern part of the Stormhill Shack site of grace, there’s a cliff overlooking a field. You will find trolls in this area and a strange glowing statue. Note that this statue is filled with smithing stones

But you won’t get any smithing stones just by searching around the statue. You need the statue to be broken.

To do this, get the attention of a troll in the field and move to the glowing statue. Once the enemy attacks you, block or avoid it. The troll’s attacks will hit the statue, causing it to break.

Now, you can get a lot of smithing stones

EAST OF THE TROLLS

You will find another cliff just east of the previous area. When you move down from the cliff, the game will tell you that you’ve left Stormhill and reached Limgrave

Look for an L-shaped ruin and you’ll find a corpse nearby. If you search the body, you’ll get a smithing stone

LIMGRAVE TUNNELS

The Limgrave Tunnels is a good location for farming smithing stones. This is located south of the Gatefront Ruins in West Limgrave

While riding elevators in the area, take note that you need to spin your camera around, so you won’t miss anything.

Moreover, the enemies in this dungeon are not that challenging, so exploring the area won’t be too difficult.

SOUTH OF DRAGON-BURNT RUINS

In the southern part of Dragon-Burnt Ruins, you will find a bottomless pit. This area is also east of The First Step site of grace. Here, you’ll find a corpse. Search the body and you’ll find a smithing stone.

RAYA LUCARIA CRYSTAL TUNNEL

In the northern part of Liurna, you’ll find a dungeon called the Raya Lucaria Crystal Tunnel

The enemies here are stronger than those in the Limgrave Tunnels. But this also means that you’ll get better items. In fact, you can get a lot of smithing stones and somber smithing stones in this area.

But the highlight of this area is the dungeon’s boss Crystalian. When the boss is defeated, you’ll get a Smithing Stone Miner’s Bell Bearing.

To use this item, take it to the Twin Maiden Husks inside the Roundtable Hold. You’ll unlock merchants that sell smithing stone [1]s for 800 runes each and smithing stone [2]s for 1,600 runes each. What’s more is that these items don’t seem to run out, so you can get as many as you want provided you have the runes.
