Pokemon Go: What is a Unova Stone used for?

Pokemon go Unova Stone

Pokemon Go has plenty of different items that don’t outright state their purposes, you might have even already come across some of these yourself – and to help understand them, in this article we’ll be talking about the Unova Stone item.

Pokemon Go – Unova Stone

Unova stones are fairly simple in Pokemon Go, they’re used as an evolution item – though unlike most of the Pokemon Go evolution items, they are used quite a few times.

What does it do?

As mentioned above, Unova Stones are used to evolve specific Pokemon. Compared to most evolution items, you need quite a few of these just to fill out the relevant Pokedex slots, so make sure to collect all of these stones that you see.

In any case, you’ll need a Unova Stone each time you want to undertake any of the following Evolutions:

  • Pansage > Simisage
  • Pansear > Simisear
  • Panpour > Simipour
  • Munna > Musharna
  • Minccino > Cinccino
  • Eelektrik > Eelektross
  • Lampent > Chandelure

Pokemon Chsndelure
Chandelure is one of the handful of Pokemon you’ll need a Unova Stone to obtain in Pokemon Go, so make sure to hang on to them if you’re a fan of this ghost type.

While not quite as bad as the sitation with the Sinnoh Stones, you’ll still want to hang on to these items when you can – you’ll need a lot of them if you want all of the evolutions they’re needed for unlocked in your Pokedex – and even more so if you decide you want a few of any of those Pokemon.

Moving on, lets address how to actually get more Unova Stones.

How do I get an Unova Stone?

For those players who don’t have an Unova Stone (or several of them) already, you can find more of them by claiming research breakthrough rewards, or participating in Team Go Rocket Leader Battles (though at a small chance).

Unfortunately, Sinnoh Stones are quite restricted in how often you can obtain them, particularly if you don’t often do Team Rocket Battles.

There are very few ways to get this Evolution item in the game – check your available research rewards and simply keep trying is the best advice I can give if you haven’t found one so far.

That’s about everything there is to know about the Unova Stone item in Pokemon Go.
