New World: How to fix Lag Detected error

New World Title Poster

New World has finally launched, after suffering a delay last month, Amazon’s new MMORPG has arrived and it has become an instant hit with fans, with over 700,000 concurrent players on Steam for its launch day, making it the biggest Steam launch of 2021, only being 2020’s Cyberpunk 2077 which saw 900,000 concurrent players.

As with any new game, especially an online game that sees its servers flooded with players looking to jump into their new purchase, there can be many issues that need to be ironed out, including the Lag Detected error that is plaguing New World players, including us.

Here is how to fix the Lag Detected error in New World.

How To Fix The Lag Detected Error In New World

New World just launched on September 28th and has become an immediate hit, but its servers are also being hit hard by new players launching the game for the first time.

This has resulted in long queue times, with some of the servers seeing thousands of people queuing to get in.

And when you do get into the game, it isn’t a guarantee that you will be in the game for long, especially if you get hit with the Lag Detected error.

While playing New World, you may unexpectedly see a message on-screen reading “LAG DETECTED”. When this happens your player will freeze in position, although you can still access the menus and chat.

The error may sort itself out and allow you to continue playing, but the likely outcome is you will eventually see another message that reads “Unexpectedly lost contact with the server. Reconnecting…”

If this happens, you will be booted out of the game and will have to queue up again to play, but you could also get stuck in a loop of the game not loading and require it to be restarted.

Restarting the game is the easiest fix for the Lag Detected error, but if the error keeps persisting, or you can’t get back into the game, follow these steps and it should fix it.

  • Find New World in your Steam library
  • Right click on the game and select Properties
  • Clock on Local Files and then Verfiy integrity of game files

This will take a couple of minutes to complete and then the error should be fixed, or at least not happen as often.

If it still occurs though, you can try it again or just live with the issue and wait until the servers either improve or the player count begins dropping, which it should after the first few days.
