Standard Survival Difficulty Settings

If you have played Subnautica, or any survival title that’s similar, you’ll find a lot of the following familiar.

There’s four difficulty settings for you to choose from when you start Subnautica Below Zero and this decision can really make or break your enjoyment of the game.

Survival is the standard difficulty that the game should be played on. You’ll need to manage Survival Meters like your health, hunger, oxygen levels and temperature but there isn’t any permadeath. You’ll respawn with some of your items too when you die.

Then, there’s Freedom mode. This still incorporates a few of the survival mechanics Subnautica is known for but you won’t need to focus on your hunger or thirst. You should also keep more items when you die.

Fancy a challenge? Hardcore is for you. This is the hardest difficulty, as you might imagine and means you’ll need to be always on top of the Survival Meters. Oh, and there’s also Permadeath. If you die, that’s it. Subnautica Below Zero deletes your save and you start again.

Much like Minecraft, if you’re just about the build there’s a Creative mode too. There’s no Survival Meters in this one and you’ll be able to craft at will. No blueprints or resources are needed for this one!
