Horizon Forbidden West is one of the most highly anticipated games for PS5 and today we finally saw gameplay of the new title during the recent State of Play event.

LATEST – Horizon Forbidden West Gameplay Revealed

During the recent State of Play event, Sony finally revealed gameplay for the upcoming Horizon Forbidden West that will be released exclusively on PS4 and PS5. Unfortunately, no release date was given during the event.

The gameplay reveal gave us a much greater insight into the story and lore of the game, as well as many of the new mechanics featured in the game.

Check out the full gameplay reveal below.

Horizon State of Play Pre-Show

The “unique countdown” we were promised by PlayStation isn’t disappointing fans! Horizon Forbidden West’s State of Play “pre-show” is essentially a rotation of cameras that showcase the world of Horizon Forbidden West. It’s a great chance for players to re-familiarise themselves with the post-apocalyptic world of the Horizon franchise.

Dense forests are spotted with torchlight and there’s an unnerving background soundtrack to keep you interested. If you’re looking for something to have in the background, there are worse things to have on the go. It’s almost like the ambient shots on a nature documentary.

It also has a timer at the top that’s counting down to the full release, which is handy! You can keep an eye on it all below:

When Does It Actually Start, Though?

We don’t know what’s coming just yet but Horizon Forbidden West’s State of Play presentation will actually begin on May 27th at around 17:00 EST / 22:00 BST. It is due to feature at least 14 minutes of gameplay from Guerrilla’s new action-adventure masterpiece. However, it will last 20 minutes in total. So… That could mean we’re also getting a cinematic trailer with a release date?

We’re expecting to see new traversal mechanics, including swimming, and a glimpse at the new batch of enemies Aloy is due to face in Horizon Forbidden West’s dangerous new frontier. With any luck, there’s also going to be a hint that Sylens and HADES will be returning. We’re not sure whether this will be saved for a big “final act reveal” in-game, though. Horizon Zero Dawn’s world is rich and it would be foolish for Guerrilla not to capitalise on pre-established characters and relationships, right?

For now though, we’ll sit back with a cup of tea and watch the strangely hypnotic pre-show content…
