Is Friday Night Funkin Free

Friday Night Funkin has been a relative juggernaut on the Internet for the past few months due to not only a great game but a wildly passionate fan community filled with talented modders, musicians, and more. That said, with the current game on Newgrounds and a Kickstarter campaign funded, is Friday Night Funkin free? I’ve got you covered.

Yep, It’s Free… For Now

As it currently stands, anyone with an Internet connection can go and search Friday Night Funkin and find either the itch.io link or the Newgrounds link to play the game. Week 7 is currently exclusive to Newgrounds, and beyond the added week, the update balanced some song difficulty, added visual flair, and made note detection better. If you’re not looking for mods, Newgrounds is definitively the best way to play. Thankfully, both sites above allow you to play Friday Night Funkin completely for free!

The Full Ass Game

Unfortunately, this won’t be the case forever. With a fully funded Kickstarter to create a Full Ass Game, Friday Night Funkin will come out with a price tag. Based on the estimated delivery date of reward tiers containing the game itself or being featured in it, a early 2022 release is likely. The game will also likely launch somewhere between $15-20. Early bird pledges of $15 will receive a full digital copy of the game while later pledges required $20 for the reward. I’d say that price range is a pretty good estimate of the cost when the game launches.

Still, there’s not much to complain about. The Full Ass Game will have over 50 Weeks of added content as well as extra playable characters, an online leaderboard, and tons of other goodies. A $15-20 price tag for a full game isn’t bad at all, and I’ll certainly be grabbing it on release.

Additionally, the Kickstart page has confirmed that the free version will get the occasional update, though focus is on the full game for obvious reasons. So, for now, is Friday Night Funkin free? Yup! But eventually you’ll need to pay for the retail game down the line if you want to enjoy the wave of new content.
