HoYoverse’s Zenless Zone Zero teaser website launch draws criticism from Genshin Impact fans

Video game developer HoYoverse, the rebranded developer behind miHoYo’s commercially successful RPG Genshin Impact, has recently teased fans with its next project called Zenless Zone Zero.

In a tweet, the page of the upcoming title shared its website, which both gives fans a vague idea of what the game will be about and a countdown until its official reveal, saying:

“News Flash–

Dear citizens, a sub-Hollow disaster has occurred in the district you are traveling to.

We are playing a special entertainment channel for you to enjoy while you wait.

The game website features a retro television set with a digital clock on top, which serves as a countdown timer, and a calendar on the side with the date May 13, 2022, circled in red.

In the background is a typical 80’s set up with posters on the wall, a shelf with VHS tapes, and a stereo speaker.

Moreover, visitors of the website can click on the knobs of the television to watch videos which include a TV ad for “Nitro Fuel,” an ominous video that gets interrupted with a lot of static, and a news report about a “Sub-Hollow” that appeared in the city quarters.

While Zenless Zone Zero may be interesting, HoYoverse has received criticisms, especially from Genshin Impact fans, about releasing yet another game as it can be recalled that the developer has recently released a closed beta for another upcoming game, Honkai: Star Rail, amidst the delay of Genshin Impact’s Version 2.7 update.

One user said:

“they still haven’t even released Honkai star rail and now they’re announcing this, no wonder we don’t get enough content in genshin.”

Another one said:

“Genshin impact 2.7 postponed.

Teapot not working.

Now I see why.”

However, some fans also defended HoYoverse, saying:

“Please stop bringing Genshin into this game’s announcement. The developer team for Genshin is different and each hoyoverse game is made by different groups of developers.

So stop bringing Genshin into every single post made by Hoyoverse.”

Committed to “creating immersive virtual world experiences for players around the world,” HoYoverse has developed games such as Genshin Impact, Honkai Impact 3rd, and Tears of Themis. The developer has also launched the community product HoYoLAB.
