As someone who sort of surveys what’s going on in the land of the Internet, I’ve noticed that there’s a lot of interest in a Friday Night Funkin download. I can only assume this is for two reasons. One, people looking to download the game for mods, and two, those who think you need to download the game to play it. Here’s all you need to know!
Don’t Even Need to Download it
Addressing the concerns of an uninformed fan of the game, you don’t even have to download Friday Night Funkin. The game is fully playable for free on both itch.io as well as Newgrounds, the latter of which will link you directly to the game. Newgrounds is definitively the best option to play on a computer browser, containing Week 7 and a concurrent update which made the game play better overall.

The only need for a download will be down the line when the Full Ass Game launches. Friday Night Funkin is being made into a full game after the success of a Kickstarter project which amassed over $2 million. While there isn’t much known yet aside from the included stretch goals and a potential release estimate, one would have to download the game through Steam or some other digital marketplace.

To those more interested in modding support and the like, the source code is available on the itch.io site, as are the game files for download. These are both available entirely for free, though one can add a tip if they so wish to support the developers.
I’ll be the first to admit I don’t know much about how to mod the game myself, but I’d imagine having the source code and game files is a pretty important step in doing so. Some mods are hosted online, such as the famous B sides, but they will definitely perform better if downloaded and ran through an application.
