Monster Hunter Rise has been one of the most awaited games of early 2021, and it seems early fan impressions are calling it a success. One can’t blame them after the success and widened mainstream appeal of Monster Hunter World.

Well, as of now, it isn’t looking likely. Nintendo has had a track record of making consoles that are fairly unique to develop for, and Rise was clearly built from the ground up for the Nintendo Switch, a vastly different console than its competitors. Generally, Nintendo is the one in line to receive watered down ports, and it rarely goes the other way where another console gets a game developed for Nintendo hardware.

There is some hope though! In recent interviews with the series producer, Ryozo Tsujimoto announced that a PC port is in the works due to excessive fan demand. This is notable for a few reasons.

Most obviously, this shows a rare occurrence of a game developed for Nintendo hardware being ported to PC, one other notable example being Octopath Traveler.

Related to that, this shows that the game can be adapted to a traditional console format with its PC release. However, it won’t be out until 2022, so Switch fans are sure to have the game as an exclusive for at least a year.

So, is Monster Hunter Rise coming to PS4/5? It’s inconclusive, but the evidence is definitely pointing to “no” right now, with a possible silver lining in the PC release.

Really though, if you’re a huge Monster Hunter fan, it’s probably worth it to either grab the Switch version or wait for the PC port. Holding your breath for news of Playstation or Xbox port in the coming year probably isn’t in your best interest.
