Minecraft Sonic DLC Out Now!

Minecraft Sonic Art

Of all the news to come from Sonic the Hedgehog’s 30 year anniversary, a collaboration with Minecraft was certainly some of the most out of left field stuff we got. However, the Minecraft Sonic DLC looks to be a surprisingly well made love letter to Sonic that plays to the strengths of both franchises involved.

The DLC features over 20 Sonic skins for Minecraft players and multiple playable stages based on Zones in the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise including Green Hill, Chemical Plant, Sky Sanctuary, and more! Additionally, many of the skins have features which reference the original characters’ power sets like Sonic’s signature spin dash. Amy Rose has her hammer with her and Knuckles can glide like in the old games.

Based on videos going around YouTube, it seems the DLC stages and content can be beaten in about 25-30 minutes without hunting for Chaos Emerald and unlocking Super Sonic. For the price of $7.99, I think it may be up to the individual to see if the Minecraft Sonic DLC is worth picking up. A ton of mechanics were added like the score and ring system, the teleporters in Sky Sanctuary Zone, etc, so I’m sure fans will find ways to push this content to the fullest with fan made levels.

For me, I feel like this sorta sits in an odd spot where I’d rather just play their respective franchises on their own to get what I want from each, but the work put into the DLC is admittedly impressive. Adding a Chao Garden and such is super charming, and the whole DLC feels inspired by the Sonic Adventure titles.
