League of Legends: Wild Rift is promising new champions that can be summoned and a wide rebalancing of current heroes. Samira and Sion are join the cause as regular nerfs and buffs are set. New skins for existing champions are also part of the update, with turret adjustments and a promise of new events.

“Rise from the dead and kill your opponents, this time with some style,” as mentioned in a recent tweet from the official League of Legends: Wild Rift Twitter account as they confirm the addition of the two new champions to join the Rift.

Back in July, a Youtube video was posted by the official League of Legends: Wild Rift account that gave a glimpse of what we can expect for patch 3.3b. The updates will be running from August 18 to Sept 1, 2022.

The story of Samira: The Desert Rose

According to Riot Games, Samira pays homage to “character-action” games like Devil May Cry. She is also known as the Desert Rose. Before she became the gun-slinging daredevil, she was a street performer who hailed from the empire of Shurima, a once thriving civilization that spanned a vast desert. A tragic event leading to the murder of innocent bystanders in their village changed something inside Samira. With Shumira in ruins, Samira was forced to live a nomadic life as she searched for basic sustenance in the unforgiving land.

She was too scared and weak to fight the strangers that pillaged their land. After this life-changing experience, Samira started getting burdened by her frustrations and anger. However, these feelings brought her to a new light. She promised herself that she would grow strong and brave. She vowed to never back down to a fight again.

After joining the Noxian Warband, her exceptional skills and natural talent in gunslinging started to grow. This is when Samira obtained her guns from Lani and Miel, two Noxian gunsmiths. However, this did not last long, as the Noxian Warband was eventually disbanded. This new challenge set Samira on the life and journey of a mercenary.

Samira: Gameplay, abilities and release date

Samira’s gameplay is like playing the female version of Dante in the Devil May Cry franchise. She is one of the few champions that can switch from melee to range, depending on the situation. She is armed with two pistols as her primary weapon for ranged attacks and a sword when she needs to switch to melee.

According to the same video posted by the official League of Legends: Wild Rift Youtube account, below are the skillset of Samira:

  • Passive — Daredevil Impulse: Samira automatically changes from her pistols to her sword dealing bonus damage through chains of non-repeating abilities, from ranks “E” to “S.” Each change of her weapon also grants bonus movement speed. If the enemy champion is stunned or immobilized, she will automatically dash and attack the enemy. Airborne enemies are knocked up for a few seconds, extending the CC duration.
  • Skill 1 — Flair: Samira fires a single shot using her gun. If enemies are close enough, she slashes using her sword instead.
  • Skill 2 — Blade Whirl: Samira creates a circular area around her that slashes the air, damaging and blocking projectile attacks. This is used for CC in team fights or escaping sticky situations.
  • Skill 3 — Wild Rush: Samira will dash through the enemy or enemies, dealing magic damage and gaining bonus attack speed. She can also use other abilities during her dash as well.
  • Ultimate Skill (4) — Infernal Trigger: This skill does not have a cooldown but requires her passive to be at rank S before it can be cast. Samira releases a barrage of shots that damages all nearby enemies 10 times over a duration. Each shot grants Samira lifesteal and deals critical damage.

The official release date of Samira is on August 26, 2022 (00:01 UTC).

The story of Sion: The Undead Juggernaut

Sion is a brutal warlord that rose to prominence long before the time of the Demacian rule. He was a ruthless warrior known to have defended the Noxian empire and their warbands. However, even with his physical prowess, he could not defend the Argent Mountains and was forced to move south with rage and fury as they escape from the Demacians.

This is where he crafted his plan to besiege Hvardis, a city under the Demacian rule, and was just at the horizon from where Sion and his Warband were displaced. However, the Noxian commander near Hvardis believed they had already suffered several defeats to the enemy and was content to hide behind the city walls and let them leave unscathed.

He was successful in his rebellion against his former commander. Sion and his band of warriors had paid the claim to the land now lost in blood; outraged, he hurled the commander from the city walls and ordered the attack. This was short-lived as he was eventually killed after taking the life of King Jarvan, the First Demacian leader. Sion was returned to life using forbidden magics of the Black Rose, an ally of Boram Dark will, years after his death.

Sion: Gameplay, abilities and release date

Riot Games confirmed that there will be no specific changes to the gameplay of Sion in his transition to Wild Rift. However, multiple video leaks have shown  Sion casting his ultimate charge around the map with fewer limitations when turning. If this pushes through, it could change the entire playstyle of Sion. There has not been any official statement from Riot Games regarding the leaked footage. With enough time, developers will likely detect this and adjust the champion.

According to the same video posted by the official League of Legends: Wild Rift Youtube account, below are the skillset of Sion:

  • Passive — Glory in Death: Sion continues to fight even after his death. After dying, Sion is briefly brought back to life and gains lifesteal, tenacity, and his abilities are replaced with Death Surge, which grants movement speed. He also causes fear to enemies within close range. A side effect of this perk is that Sion’s health quickly decays over time, causing his imminent death.
  • Skill 1 — Decimating Smash: If he casts it once, he channels the swing of the ax, and casting it again brings it down. Channeling it for a period of time will change the slow effect into a knock-up.
  • Skill 2 — Soul Furnace: Sion is granted a shield that will explode with a second cast.
  • Skill 3 — Roar of the Slayer: This is often used with his first skill as it deals magic damage, slows, and reduces the armor of the first enemy hit. If it’s a minion, they’ll be knocked back, applying the same effects to all enemies in their path.
  • Ultimate Skill (4) — Unstoppable Onslaught: This allows Sion to charge forward in a target direction, providing additional movement speed, but draws difficulty when turning. Once collided with an enemy or terrain, he’ll slam the ground to deal damage and will cause knock-up in an area. The greater distance he travels, the longer the knockup. Sion is immune to all crowd control, and he can re-cast to end it early on this form.

The official release date of Sion is on August 26, 2022 (00:01 UTC).
