This fall, Spartans will be dropped into a war with the Banished in Halo Infinite. Whether you’re arming yourself for the struggle against the foe led by the intimidating Atriox, or to take on your fellow Spartans in multiplayer, every warrior needs a solid set of tools to get the job done.

Right now, the toolset we have to play with is sparse. It’s been confirmed that the Assault Rifle, Sniper Rifle, and other mainstays of the series are going to return as ever in Infinite, but what about the unconfirmed entries? Not only are we missing some classics, but also some of the incredibly fun power weapons that we’ve used to mow down scores of Flood, Covenant, and Forerunner alike. So what should come back?

Here are the top 10 weapons that need to return in Halo Infinite.

10. Gravity Hammer

Wielded by the Brutes since Halo 2, and wielded by us since Halo 3, the Gravity Hammer combines relentless brutality with physics-based destruction. The heavy melee weapon is a lethal bludgeon in and of itself, what with it’s massive head flanked by a blade on its rear. Its more interesting function, however, is its ability to create a gravitational shockwave from its point of impact.

This weapon can be used to launch enemy Spartans flying, or can even be used to add extra height to your own jumps by swinging at the ground as you leap. It also serves well as an anti-vehicle weapon, capable of inflicting serious damage on a Scorpion, or sending a Warthog tumbling through the air. With the focus on Brutes as our main foe on Installation 07, the Gravity Hammer is just begging to return.

9. Plasma Caster

Only introduced in Halo’s most recent mainline entry, Halo 5: Guardians, the Plasma Caster has alternate firing modes, dual anti-infantry/anti-vehicle capabilities, and a sleek design. The Covenant weapon launches Plasma Grenade-like projectiles, up to five at a time, or can launch a single, powerful charged projectile.

The fast-firing, “grenade launcher” mode can be used for area denial or room clearing, while the charged shot homes in on and sticks to targets – incredibly useful for taking down an annoying Banshee or Ghost. We already know we’re going to encounter Covenant on the new Halo ring. We can only hope they come back with Casters.

8. Sentinel Beam

The automaton guardians of the Halo rings, Sentinels, are often equipped with this directed-energy laser style weapon. Firing either a soft orange or electric blue beam of concentrated energy, the Sentinels would use the superhot blast to quell Flood infestations. Spartans have been salvaging and utilizing the Sentinel Beam since Halo 2.

The Sentinel Beam really shined in Halo 2 and Halo 3’s campaigns, where it was particularly useful at clearing out the Flood, especially the small, creepy Infector forms. In multiplayer, Spartans used the Sentinel Beam to drain their foes’ shields, a feat the beam also excels at. Surely, Zeta Halo’s defense systems should still be in place. And where there’s Sentinels, you can always find the Beam.

7. Assault Cannon

You may not recognize the name of this weapon, but you almost certainly recognize it. The weapon Hunters are seen carrying into battle became usable for the first time in Halo 5: Guardians in post-release content. Functioning just like a Hunter’s arm, the weapon can fire either rapid low damage energy projectiles, or a concentrated heavy blast.

Spartans have never actually torn the weapon off a Hunter’s body. Instead, it was a REQ card in Halo 5, wherein a Spartan could call in the weapon from the armory, and then slowly move around with the great weapon, blasting everyone with green intensity. Maybe in Halo Infinite, we’ll see the weapon from the start, meaning it can be included as a drop from Hunters in the campaign.

6. SAW

Since Halo 4, we’ve been sending mountains of lead down-range with the Squad Assault Weapon, or SAW. The best representation of a light machine gun in the Halo games, the SAW is a fan-favourite for its stability, lethality, and reliability.

With enough ammo to down an entire squad of Covenant, and enough punch to even bust through Spartan armor, the SAW is a beast in the hands of a reliable user. The first UNSC weapon to make the list, we hope Chief and co. bring back this heavy metal hard hitter to Infinite.

5. Brute Shot

And you thought the Gravity Hammer looked brutal. The Brute Shot is a grenade launcher and medieval weapon all-in-one. Utilized, obviously, by Brutes, the weapon is fed a belt of small grenades, which don’t deal as much damage as their larger counterparts, but allow Brutes to pepper an entire area with fragmentation.

When Spartans first started using the Brute Shot in Halo 2, it was certainly fun to levy a barrage of explosions towards your foe, but what was even better was cleaving them in two with the massive curved blade that adorns the weapon’s back half. Hopefully the Banished like this deadly weapon as much as we do.

4. Target Locator

Explosions can always get bigger. The Target Locator itself isn’t a weapon. Simply put, it does what it says on the tin: locates the target for the real weapon to fire on. Whatever structure the tiny little tracking laser scrolls over, an orbital cannon will just as soon turn that structure into rubble. Vehicles are no exception.

In Halo: Reach, Spartans could use the weapon in one campaign mission, and never again. Multiplayer was completely devoid of the thing. We think it would be awesome if you could perhaps pick up the Target Locator as a piece of equipment or a weapon in Infinite, and call in a single orbital strike on an area of your choosing.

3. Magnum

Now, we’ve seen the Sidekick, the new pistol coming to Halo Infinite this Fall, but that isn’t the Magnum. The Magnum we’re talking about is the Halo: Combat Evolved classic, the M6D Magnum. Delivering huge, powerful rounds out of what was essentially a hand cannon, the Magnum was a staple of the original Halo and finally made a comeback in Halo 5: Guardians.

Taking down Spartans in three shots is impressive. Taking down Hunters in one shot, on Legendary, is even more so. The Magnum is capable of both. Skilled Spartans can lay out a garden of fallen foes with the high-caliber sidearm, and we hope with all we have that it returns in Infinite.

2. Firebomb

In Halo 3, while dealing with the outbreak of Flood, Brutes utilized fire in a more bite-sized way than your average Flamethrower. Firebombs were the glowing, incendiary grenades thrown by Brutes which could easily vanquish hordes of Flood, but could also easily drain an unwary Spartan’s shields.

Fire is useful at crowd control, and the Firebomb is no exception. Excelling at wiping out a room of Flood, or starting a panic in a vehicle full of Spartans that are now on fire, the Firebomb is a versatile tool. Plus, it’s incredibly unique, as fire-based weapons are so few and far between in Halo. Perhaps since Halo Wars 2’s Flood reawakening, the Banished have brought back these infernal canisters.

1. Mauler

Nothing feels better than a one-shot. No weapons get one shots better than snipers and shotguns. The problem with those big things is you can only use one of them at once! Enter: the Mauler. This single-handed shotgun that is so small, Brutes classify it as a pistol, packs all the punch of a shotgun in a dual-wieldable package.

Tearing through Covenant armor with the slugs fired from this weapon was like a hot knife through butter, and Spartans fell almost as easily to the Mauler. We have no confirmation on whether or not dual-wielding will return in Infinite, but if it does, we hope that the Mauler returns with it.
