Genshin Impact: Will there be a Version 2.9?

Tighnari - Dendro character

Last Updated on: 30th July 2022, 01:29 am

Released last July 13th, 2.8 is the current version of Genshin Impact. Logically, following the said version should be Version 2.9. However, will this really be the case?

It is common knowledge that HoYoverse does a patch update every six weeks, with each update divided into two phases for different banners and events to be featured. Except for the Version 2.7 delay, this schedule has always been followed by the game developer, giving fans something to look forward to on a regular basis.

With the schedule in mind, it can be said that Version 2.9 should be dropped around the end of August. However, there’s a big chance that HoYoverse will not be releasing Version 2.9 at all and will instead go directly to Version 3.0!

Reasons why there might not be a Version 2.9

There are several reasons why we think that there won’t be Version 2.9 at all. From leaks to recent official releases, the next update just screams 3.0, and we can’t NOT hear it.

First, HoYoverse has already skipped versions before, and it’s not impossible for them to do it again.

Should the next update after 2.8 really be 3.0, this would not be the first time for HoYoverse to skip versions. It can be recalled that the game skipped from Version 1.6 to 2.0 last year when we were first introduced to the game’s third major region, Inazuma. But how is this argument relevant to Version 3.0? This leads us to our next reason.

Second, all leaks and official releases lead us to the next major region, Sumeru.

Long before HoYoverse officially announced some characters from Sumeru, we have already seen leaks of characters such as Tighnari, Dori, Collei, Dehya, Nilou, and Al-Haitham. Again, these are characters from the next major region of Teyvat. And when did HoYoverse skip from Version 1.6 to 2.0? Yup! That’s when Inazuma was released.

On the other hand, the official Twitter account of Genshin Impact has already released the official arts of Tighnari, Dori, and Collei earlier this month. Releasing the official art of characters often mean that they are going to be in the next update, and it just won’t make sense if these characters from a new major region are going to be in Version 2.9 instead of 3.0.

While this statement might appear as a non sequitor, we haven’t really heard any leaks or official statements that suggest Version 2.9. Instead, HoYoverse has recently teased us with a new video. And guess what it’s about. It’s about Sumeru!

Third, HoYoverse has just recently released the Prelude to Wisdom teaser.

This new teaser tells us a lot about the upcoming region. In the teaser, it is said that Sumeru values wisdom and that its affairs of state are handled by the Akademiya. It is also said that as a nation of the Dendro element, Sumeru‘s forests have just the ideal humidity and soil for shroom-kin and animals to thrive.

As for its people, most of the locals are not capable of dreaming. While this is something unusual, the locals are proud of this, seeing it as proof of their rationality and wisdom. Of course, the new playable characters are in this teaser as well.

Again, Sumeru is a major update just like how major Inazuma was back in 2.0, so going straight to 3.0, in this case, is a huge possibility.

If these three reasons don’t make you think that there won’t be a Version 2.9 at all, we don’t know what else will. For now, having Version 2.9 is quite unlikely. Still, it’s up to HoYoverse. The next update is just less than a month away, anyway. So, let’s just wait for further announcements. Although, we’re pretty sure you can no longer wait for Sumeru!
