After many animated teasers for both Inazuma and Sumeru, it’s finally time for proper animation. Ufotable and Genshin Impact partner themselves to produce the game’s official anime.

The announcement was made during the newest Special Livestream for the 3.1 version and caught everyone by surprise when the studio logo dropped.

A higher-scale animation for the game was something players have frequently asked Hoyoverse to grant them. When comparing the game with their previous title Honkai Impact 3rd, Genshin’s older brother had many incredible, emotional animations to help promote it, often being referred to as the “favorite son”.

But while Honkai is also very popular, it cannot match Genshin’s sheer number of players, which broke many records for the genre and the company in those last 2 years and are even capable of stopping establishments from working sometimes. Getting more related material to promote it was simply a matter of time, and here we are now.

The 3 minutes teaser showcases the region of Teyvat in the studio’s famous detailed art style, showing how Paimon, Aether, and Lumine will look like in this animation. Aside from being a long-term project, we know little to nothing about this future anime.

The scenes we saw were probably just promotional material that won’t be in the final product. As it usually happens with most official products, Aether is very likely to be the protagonist with Lumine acting as the Abyss twin. The Livestream also had a small mini theater section with this exact scenario, where Lumine recalls her brother’s feats in Teyvat.

While no information for the story was given, most can assume the anime will follow closely the main quests from the game, mainly the Archon Quests and the Interlude chapters. It’s very likely that some Character Stories also get some spotlight as many of them are just as important for the story.

We may also get some small references for optional quests and events through some “filler” episodes. As the anime does not have a set release date, the game might be in a much more advanced state when it’s finally released.

The visuals for other characters shall be revealed as the project advances, but as no possible release dates were included, this could take a while. At least fans can rest assured, as the animation is surely placed in the competent hands of ufotable.

About the studio

Ufotable is considered by many fans one of the best Japanese animation studios out there. Being responsible for projects like the Fate series (Zero, Unlimited Blade Works and the Heaven’s Feel movies) and most recently Demon Slayer, they are best known for their immense amount of details in the fights and their faithful adaptations of the original works.

The company was previously involved in a tax evasion scandal, accused of having over 400 million Yen (around 2,8 million dollars) in debt, having acknowledged the incident, and committing themselves to pay for what was required.

That didn’t stop them from producing new animations in the past few years, as Demon Slayer has received two seasons and an amazing movie since then, all of them acclaimed by fans and with amazing production details.

For Ufotable and Genshin Impact to be together, we can expect something even better from what we’ve seen in the previous animations for the 2.5 version or the most recent Sumeru teaser.

When is the anime being released?

As said by the developers during the live, they are still experimenting with many new projects, and this Ufotable and Genshin Impact seems to be another one of these experiments.

As such, there’s no set date for when it could be released, but it shouldn’t take much longer until Hoyoverse reveals some more information. We’ll be sure to cover that when it’s released.

Genshin Impact is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, iOS, and Android.
