The solution to ‘To whom goes the treasure when all is said and done’ is the guard. The guard can be found standing the closest to the table after the end of the play. If you’re not sure why the guard was the answer, it’s because the Merchant lets him keep the ‘shiny’ after the play ends, as the merchant believes it to be the fake version, or at least another fake.

If you’ve followed the play closely throughout, however, you’ll be aware that the first shiny on the table was a fake, and the thieves trying to rob the merchant actually unwittingly had the real shiny. After they are swapped back around by the guard who caught them, he is left holding the real shiny, without anyone knowing.
