New Genshin Impact Mondstadt trailer isn’t related to upcoming anime

If you just can’t wait for Genshin Impact to finally be released as an anime, you might have to wait a little more. A new Mondstadt trailer was released today through Hoyoverse’s social media. As dazzling and beautiful as it could be, it’s sadly not related to the official anime in any way.

The Scenery and Sentiment: Mondstadt Edition trailer is a commemorative PV showcasing the very first region we visited in the game. It depicts a regular day in the land blessed by the Anemo Archon, showing its nature, its people, and, as the name suggests, the beauty of its landscape.

The name also implies that we’ll be getting new versions focused on other regions available in the game. So Liyue could be next, followed by Inazuma and the newcomer Sumeru.

But a very important detail is that this Mondstadt trailer is not a sneak peek at how the previously announced Genshin Impact anime will look like. This is most likely a ceremonial trailer made to celebrate the game’s 2nd anniversary, which is why we’re currently having the Path of Gleaming Jade login event in-game.

Scenery and Sentiment evoke exactly what its name suggests in a very Ghibli-like manner, something that fits Genshin Impact’s visual almost perfectly. We can see some of Mondstadt’s most important locations aside from the city, such as the Dawn Winery, the Starsnatch Cliff, the Windrise, and the Stormterror’s Lair.

The trailer was not produced by Ufotable, the studio responsible for the upcoming Genshin Impact anime adaptation. Still, it was made by the Danish Sun Creature Studio, who also produced one episode for the anthology show “Love, Death and Robots” available on Netflix.

This is more evident during scenes with characters present.  The art style is very different from what we’re used to seeing in other Ufotable works, but it could be easy to confuse both of them when taking a quick look, something that actually happened with leaker Ubatcha.

As he received the trailer, he probably believed it to be new info about the anime, which wasn’t the case. As said before, there’s little to no information about when the anime will actually receive new updates. This Mondstad trailer isn’t one.

Are there any anime leaks?

A few weeks ago, a supposed leak posted in Chinese forums gained some traction through Reddit. It contained information on the general theme of the anime and a few details on what the episodes would be like, affirming around 3 episodes from the first arc were already completed.

For quick reference, here’s a summary of what it contained, provided by u/No-Lifeguard4399:

  • News about the anime from the marketing department. It’s the timeline before Aether and Lumine came. Archon War, one season for each nation (or region?)? end of the war, the arrival of Aether and Lumine (the scene in PV), and adventure across the continent of Teyvat? destruction of Khaenri’ah 500 years ago, then the opening scene of Genshin Impact.
  • The project has been running for 18 months. Currently, 1/4 of the 12 episodes for Mondstadt are completed. Good plot, and incredible VFX (???), make you want to watch more

The leak was immediately labeled as questionable as the original source didn’t have any previous precision on leaks. Also, while the initial trailer wasn’t necessarily showing scenes from the actual anime, it didn’t seem to advise the Archon War period.

Seeing the anime as a way to promote the game, it would also make more sense to show places you can visit while playing and, more importantly, the characters you meet on your journey.

Using it as a way to amplify lore is a good strategy, but it wouldn’t live up to the expectations of those who want to experience the game through animation. The same thing was already made in the manga.

So, wrapping all up, there is no new official information on the anime, and the Mondstadt trailer doesn’t have anything to do with it. The situation could change with the new 3.2 Special Program trailer airing on October 23, but it might be too soon.

Genshin Impact is currently available PC, PS4, PS5, iOS, and Android.
