Genshin Impact 3.0: Investigate the courtyard far down the corridor guide

Sumeru was rumoured to contain many puzzles before launch, and judging by the Investigate the courtyard far down the corridor objective, rumours were accurate.

What sounds and looks like a simple puzzle at a glance in Genshin Impact 3.0 has turned out to stump many travelers exploring the newly available lands of Sumeru. Some players are actually finding it difficult, while others are simply confused by the puzzle itself seemingly being a bit janky to solve.

Assuming you’ve already arrived in Sumeru, you may well already have found this puzzle. If so, and you’re struggling with the solution to this yourself, here’s a helping hand.

Investigate the courtyard far down the corridor puzzle solution

The ‘Investigate the courtyard far down the corridor’ puzzle is, as you may have guessed, related to the glowing yellow runes in front of you in this room. They must be connected together to unlock the door and allow you to move on.

This seems to be easier said than done though, as the runes are a bit troublesome to line up – making this a bit more difficult than you may have thought at first glance.

To solve the ‘Investigate the courtyard far down the corridor’ objectives puzzle, you’ll need to move your character close to the shimmering golden light on the ground, located close to the balcony section looking out on to the puzzle area.

At first, it seems like you need to stand on it to be able to solve the puzzle at all, but this doesn’t seem to be the case. If anything, standing directly on top of this hint seems to make this Genshin Impact puzzle harder if anything, and nearly impossible to solve. Instead, you’ll need to walk a little to the side and in front of it – or at least, I did, as the camera seemingly would not align correctly otherwise.

The image above highlights the issue I was having that you may also encounter with this puzzle. While standing in more or less the correct spot, the lit up runes don’t quite fully align, preventing the solution.

The second image included above displays how the complete rune will look after the puzzle is resolved. It seems the best way to get the symbol to count as correctly aligned is to step a little in front of the light, and off to the right side of it, then try adjusting your camera to align it again.

If done correctly, you’ll encounter this unusual visual effect on your display, and your objective will change. The backdrop will also transform to suit the new camera angle, as solving the puzzle outside has changed the landscape somewhat.

That’s really it for the ‘Investigate the courtyard far down the corridor’ objective – it’s unclear if you’re not actually intended to stand on the light glow on the floor and that’s just a hint, or if the objective is simply a bit buggy and not as generous as it perhaps should be with detecting the camera angle required to ‘solve’ it.

While I appreciate all the new puzzle types HoYoVerse is experimenting with lately, it feels like camera angle puzzles such as the one featured in this Investigate the courtyard far down the corridor objective may need a bit more work before they use them in important story content like this.
