Genshin Impact: How to get Diluc

Genshin Impact Diluc

Genshin Impact is a popular action role-playing game developed and published by miHoYo, also known as HoYoverse. While the game is free-to-play, it is monetized through its gacha system called “Wish” which allows you to pull for characters and weapons.

The currency used for “wishing” can be obtained by using real money. However, you can also get some by doing tasks in-game. This means that you can technically have Diluc for free!

Speaking of free, there are characters at the beginning of the game that you can get without “wishing” for them, and there are those you can get as event rewards. One such event is Resonating Visions in Genshin Impact 2.8 where you can obtain a free Fischl!

If you’re a new player and are wondering which ones you can get absolutely for free, you might want to check out our list of free Genshin Impact characters here. However, Diluc isn’t one of them, and the primary method for acquiring new characters is still through the Wish system.

Well, who doesn’t like him, anyway? He’s an amazing DPS character, and he’s well-designed, too! You can also optimize his DPS potential if you check out our Diluc Build Guide here—that is, once you already have him, and we know you will have him! So, if you’re wondering how the Wish system works and how you can get Diluc, feel free to read on.

Here’s how you can obtain Diluc in Genshin Impact

While there are events that give free characters, the only way for you to get Diluc as of writing is through the Wish system. To “wish,” you need to have:

  • Intertwined Fate (pink wish items) for the Promotional Banner
  • Acquaint Fate (blue wish items) for the Standard Banner
  • Primogems that can be transformed into the aforementioned Fates

If you’re wondering how you can get Fates, there are a couple of things that you can do such as:

  • increasing your Adventure Rank
  • ascending your characters
  • making an offering for the Frostbearing Tree in Dragonspine
  • making an offering for the Sacred Sakura Tree in Inazuma
  • reaching certain levels in The Sojourner’s Battle Pass

On the other hand, you can get Primogems by doing tasks such as:

  • opening chests
  • completing quests, events, and challenges
  • participating in web events (if there are ongoing ones, you will be notified via the in-game mail)
  • checking-in daily through HoYolab

Once you have the necessary Wish items, you simply have to go to the Wish banners by accessing the icon pointed out in the image below. You can also access the same icon through the Paimon Menu.

There are two (2) types of Wish banners that feature characters. These are the Standard Banner, which is always available, and the Promotional Banner, which features characters for a limited time.

You can get Diluc from either banners. However, take note that he is a 5-star character. This means that you need to “wish” in a particular banner up to ninety (90) times for a chance to get him. That is equivalent to spending 90 Fates or 14,400 Primogems (1 Fate = 160 Primogems).

It is also important to note that the 5-star characters that you can get from Standard Banner as of writing are Keqing, Jean, Qiqi, Mona, and Diluc. This means that if you reach the 90th pull, it’s NOT a guarantee that you will get Diluc. Instead, you can get any of the mentioned characters or a 5-star weapon.

You can also get Keqing, Jean, Qiqi, Mona, and Diluc from the Promotional Banner. However, the priority characters in this banner are the time-limited ones. In this banner, we have the mechanics called the 50/50 and the Pity System.

50/50, the Pity System, and how these affect getting Diluc

We mentioned earlier that you can get Diluc from the Standard and Promotional Banners by wishing for up to ninety (90) times.

In the Standard Banner, the prize pool always consists of Keqing, Jean, Qiqi, Mona, Diluc, and a 5-star weapon. However, in the Promotional Banner, once you reach around the 90th wish for the first time, there is a 50% chance that you’ll “win” and get the featured 5-star character for that banner. There is also a 50% chance that you’ll “lose” and get any prize from the Standard Banner prize pool. The Pity system works in a way that your next 90th wish after “losing” in the Promotional Banner will be a guaranteed featured character from that banner.

This means that “losing” in the Promotional Banner is a chance of getting Diluc.

Final reccomendations

Diluc might be “wishable” from either banners, but getting him is a matter of luck—that’s how gacha games work. We suggest that you continue “wishing” on the banners. If you have some Acquaint Fates, you can use them to “wish” on the Standard Banner for a chance to get Diluc.

However, we recommend that you only convert your precious Primogems into Intertwined Fates (the ones that you can use for the Promotional banner). This is because the Promotional Banner features limited-time characters. Because of the 50/50, you can hit two birds with one stone here. You can aim for the limited character by “winning” while also having a chance to get Diluc by “losing.” Still, losing the 50/50 by getting Diluc from the Promotional Banner is a win because he’s an awesome character.

Right now, if you don’t have enough Fates and Primogems but want to experience “wishing,” you might want to try some of the best Genshin Impact Wish Simulators here.
