Genshin Impact: Raiden rerun is the best-selling banner in history

The double rerun Raiden Shogun and Kokomi banner are now the best-selling in the Genshin Impact history, according to the GenshinLab data for characters’ revenue. Raiden’s first coming was previously the unmatched champion with the most sellings made in the 21 days period it was active.

The data accounts only for the Chinese iOS market sales, leaving other platforms (PC, Android, and PS4) and countries outside of the final result. And while some final results may differ, it’s a good way to measure how well a specific character is doing in sales.

In her most recent banner, the Raiden Shogun and Kokomi banner had revenue of USD $33,560,259. During her release, the Shogun was able to reach USD $33,020,905 by herself. Venti, who is currently China’s third best-selling banner, only got up to USD $30,632,752.

For a long time, Venti and Klee were still the top sellers, as they were the first two characters available and Genshin’s hype was huge on the release. Both were also very meta characters at the time, which is usually what bumps China’s sales.

It was only with Raiden that a new champion arrived, and some other characters, usually reruns (when people know how good a character is), are occasionally outselling Klee and even getting closer to Venti.

Kokomi also makes up a good part of these numbers. While Archons are usually some good selling characters, many couldn’t get Kokomi at her release and are finally getting their second shot at her.

An important thing to notice is that Japanese sales are less based on meta and more on the character’s popularity. Usually, waifus are more appealing, especially if they have famous VAs behind them. But of course, there are exceptions. Childe’s very popular there and had good sales on his release and second rerun.

Kokomi, who did poorly on her release in China, was actually a good banner in Japan, topping banners such as Albedo, Xiao, Zhongli’s first rerun and almost selling as much as Ayaka. Her debut net Hoyoverse a little bit over 1,1 Billion yen in total sales.

Yoimiya also wasn’t very popular at release in China but had more sales than Ayaka in Japan. Probably thanks to her VA Kana Ueda, who voices famous characters such as Rin Tohsaka in Fate series.

In fact, Hu Tao’s rerun is currently the best-selling character in Japan with over 2,4 Billion Yen in total sales, both due to her character herself and her VA Rie Takahashi, who voices Megumin in Konosuba. Xiao/Shenhe and Zhongli/Ganyu also sold more than Raiden on both runs.

Why does Raiden sell so well?

But even in Japan, Raiden sales are always very good. Outside of being voiced by Miyuki Sawashiro (Kirari in Kakegurui, Sinon in SAO, Kurapika in HxH), there are many reasons for her to be such a popular character.

She’s currently one of the strongest characters in the game. While tier lists are always biased to the creator’s personal preferences, Raiden is always highly regarded by everyone. Her Electro applications combined with high Burst damage and serving as an Energy battery for almost every team makes her very valuable.

In fact, the popular National Raiden team is considered by many the best team in the game, as it has damage, powerful reactions, healing, and energy recharge all in one.

While C0 is good, she can be made even stronger. Since the Raiden banner was the best-selling banner, many already had her and went for upgrades in her second coming. C2 is one of the most broken constellations in the game, and many were after it during this rerun. Her weapon is also incredibly strong on her, which surely bumped the sales.

Gameplay aside, she’s also one of the most popular and recognizable characters in the game. Being because of her design, strength, artwork, pulling her sword out of her chest and many other things, people simply like her and will pull for her regardless.

Kokomi was not a very successful release, being placed right after the most rentable banner in the game. She also has some character problems but is still one of the best Hydro appliers available, and people have discovered some good comps based around her, which may be one of the reasons the rerun went so well.

And in the end, many players just like to collect new characters. But it’s still impressive that Raiden has both the first and second best-selling banner in the game’s history in China. Will she be able to keep it up in her next rerun? We’ll find out in a few months.
