Magic Guide is a 3-star catalyst in Genshin Impact. It is part of the 3-star Bane series of weapons that increase damage against certain enemy units or those that are affected by one of two elements.

This article will discuss Magic Guide, including where you can get it, its stats, the ascension materials required, and recommended characters. We will also give some insights into whether it’s a viable option for the upcoming Archon character Nahida.

Where to get Magic Guide

Recommended Characters: Is Magic Guide a good option for Nahida?

As a 3-star weapon, there are seemingly better options than Magic Guide. For instance, one competition for this weapon is the craftable 4-star catalyst Mappa Mare which also grants Elemental Mastery as a bonus stat. On the other hand, Mappa Mare has a stackable passive skill that grants an Elemental DMG bonus when triggering Elemental Reactions.

However, Mappa Mare‘s passive does NOT trigger when the character equipping it is off-field. It is, therefore, only great when equipped by a DPS catalyst character who needs to take some field time to deal significant damage. This is where Magic Guide becomes an option.

As a weapon that deals bonus DMG to enemies affected by Hydro or Electro, it only follows that Magic Guide is a good option for characters who can consistently apply said elements to opponents. Although this weapon isn’t their BiS (best-in-slot) in most situations, Magic Guide is an option for characters like Kokomi, Mona, Barbara, and Lisa.

However, it can also work for non-Hydro or non-Electro units like Sucrose, provided that she is in a team that can apply Hydro or Electro consistently. Her role here is, of course, to deal Swirl damage imbued by said elements. Apart from the bonus DMG, she can also benefit greatly from the Elemental Mastery that Magic Guide provides.

Lastly, this weapon is worth considering for the upcoming character Nahida, also known as Lesser Lord Kusanali. Although she is a Dendro character and won’t be dealing Electro or Hydro herself, she will definitely be a viable user of Magic Guide in a Catalyze team (Electro-Dendro) with Cyno for example.

Cyno takes most of the field time as his Burst needs him to do so. Therefore, Nahida can just use her Elemental Skill and Burst, marking enemies with her Seed of Skandha (as described by Honey Impact), then switch out. When Cyno takes the field, applies Electro, and triggers reactions, Nahida can deal off-field damage. As Cyno will consistently apply Electro at this point, Nahida‘s off-field damage will definitely be increased with Magic Guide‘s passive.
