Genshin Impact: Leakers are starting to retire

Our monthly flood of Genshin Impact leaks may be coming to an end. Or at least, we’ll start to see fewer pieces of information about the future updates of the game, since some of the main Genshin leakers are seemly starting to retire from constantly giving out new content.

It all started back in August, when abc64, one of the most reliable leakers for footage about the game’s beta announced he would stop leaking. But, for some reason, he didn’t. We saw less information coming for him, but he was still active. Was.

Today, this is what we see when we try to access his account:

What happened to the Genshin leakers? Why are they Retiring?

First of all, leaking any beta content is against miHoYo Terms of Service when you sign up as a tester. Not only it spoils some of the surprises included in the update, but it also affects miHoYo’s marketing strategies.

But leaks also have a good side, like helping F2P players preparing for the upcoming banners or hyping up the community about a new character, weapon or region.

Ayaka and Xiao are some great examples. Both of the characters were greatly desired by the players since the game’s release, as they were available during the CBTs and videos showcasing their abilities were popular.

But again, miHoYo dislikes leakers. Their current new approach is to “leak the characters by themselves”. From 1.6 onwards, miHoYo showcased the characters featured in the game’s next version a few days after the patch arrives, in all updates to this date.

This lead to more aggressive tactics, such as tracking and banning any leaker who left any kind of information that could reveal them to suing confirmed leakers.

The Bilibili incident

A recent post on Reddit by u/Yamusauce announced that miHoYo has sued the Chinese equivalent to Youtube, Bilibili. Likely because many leakers used the platform to post some leaked footage about the beta.

This is the way miHoYo found in order to get the identity of some of the most prominent leakers, since Bilibili will have to reveal their users’ identity if it’s required for legal uses. The beta content belongs to miHoYo, so they have the right to ensure it stays secret.

This has probably made Genshin leakers choose to retire because it obviously wasn’t worth to continue leaking for free while taking the risk of getting a lawsuit.

Which Genshin leakers are starting to retire?

Some leakers have already refrained from using their accounts, such as abc64 and ImpactYoimiya, and all of their tweets are not available anymore.

Sukunaa also seems to be ending his leaker career. His account is deleted and he made a last “leak post”, which contained many fake leaks, and it’s up to us to discover which ones are actually real. They might all be fake in the end.

Dimbreath also posted a tweet mentioning a “last gift”, but the use of “maybe” makes us question if he’ll also retire from being a leaker.

Another popular leaker who usually was into more lore content was Terry Chen, who also retired for leaking since his brother found out and warned him about the potential dangers.

But another reason for the disband may be the invasive treatment the community gave them. Constantly asking when a character will be released, which reruns we’ll get or just being outright offensive to you since you didn’t leak what people wanted must take its toll after some time.

What happens to the leaks now?

Leaks for Genshin Impact will continue. Honey Impact for example is going strong and steady.  But since some of the main leakers seem to have already retired, we’ll probably see some decrease in the number of leaks we get each month.

Nothing stops them from coming back with new accounts in the near future, but this may be a distant possibility.

Other leakers seem to continue on their regular schedule of revealing new enemies or events. We don’t know to which point they’ll be able to maintain it, but we better enjoy them while we can.

With the loss of so many important leakers, new false information may start to rise. So if you already took the leaks with a grain of salt, it’s time to use a whole spoon. We don’t know who might be the next big Genshin Impact leakers or who just want to get their minutes of fame.

Genshin Impact is finally on its 2.1 version, “Floating World Under the Moonlight”, featuring the conclusion of the Archon Quests in Inazuma, a new Weekly Boss, 2 new World Bosses, new characters and two new areas for exploration.

You can play the game for free on mobile devices, Playstation 4, Playstation 5 and Pc on both miHoYo’s official launcher and Epic Games Store. A Nintendo Switch version is stated to be in development.
