The 2.8 update of Genshin Impact marks the return of many beloved characters to the wishing banners, and one of them is Kaedehara Kazuha, the 5-star Anemo Sword character who’s considered one of the best characters in the game.

Once labeled as a criminal in his homeland Inazuma, the young samurai found his calling traveling with The Crux fleet commanded by Beidou. After clearing his name during the Inazuma Archon Quests, he decides to stay with the crew for a while more as he’s naturally a wanderer

He also had small appearances during some events detailing more about his clan, something expanded upon during the new Story Quests introduced in the update. And to celebrate it, he’s back on the banners after a whole year away.

If he happened to stumble on your team, here’s a Kazuha build guide detailing some of the recommended artifact sets, weapons, talents leveling order, and teams.

Kaedehara Kazuha Talents guide

Normal Attack – Garyuu BladeworkNormal Attack
Perform up to 5 rapid strikes.

Charged Attack
Consumes a certain amount of Stamina to unleash 2 rapid sword strikes.

Plunging Attack
Plunges from mid-air to strike the ground below, damaging opponents along the path and dealing AoE DMG upon impact. If this Plunging Attack is triggered by Chihayaburu, it will be converted to Plunging Attack: Midare Ranzan.

Plunging Attack: Midare Ranzan
When a Plunging Attack is performed using the effects of the Elemental Skill Chihayaburu, Plunging Attack DMG is converted to Anemo DMG and will create a small wind tunnel via a secret blade technique that pulls in nearby objects and opponents.
Elemental Skill – ChihayaburuUnleashes a secret technique as fierce as the rushing wind that pulls objects and opponents towards Kazuha’s current position before launching opponents within the AoE, dealing Anemo DMG and lifting Kazuha into the air on a rushing gust of wind.
Within 10s of remaining airborne after casting Chihayaburu, Kazuha can unleash a powerful Plunging Attack known as Midare Ranzan.

Press
Can be used in mid-air.

Hold
Charges up before unleashing greater Anemo DMG over a larger AoE than Press Mode.

Plunging Attack: Midare Ranzan
When a Plunging Attack is performed using the effects of the Elemental Skill Chihayaburu, Plunging Attack DMG is converted to Anemo DMG. On landing, Kazuha creates a small wind tunnel via a secret blade technique that pulls in nearby objects and opponents.

Midare Ranzan‘s DMG is considered Plunging Attack DMG.
Elemental Burst – Kazuha SlashThe signature technique of Kazuha’s self-styled bladework — a single slash that strikes with the force of the first winds of autumn, dealing AoE Anemo DMG.
The blade’s passage will leave behind a field named “Autumn Whirlwind” that periodically deals AoE Anemo DMG to opponents within its range.

Elemental Absorption
If Autumn Whirlwind comes into contact with Hydro/Pyro/Cryo/Electro, it will deal additional elemental DMG of that type.

Elemental Absorption may only occur once per use.
Ascension Talent – Soumon SwordsmanshipIf Chihayaburu comes into contact with Hydro/Pyro/Cryo/Electro when cast, this Chihayaburu will absorb that element and if Plunging Attack: Midare Ranzan is used before the effect expires, it will deal an additional 200% ATK of the absorbed elemental type as DMG. This will be considered Plunging Attack DMG.

Elemental Absorption may only occur once per use of Chihayaburu.
Ascension Talent – Poetics of FuubutsuUpon triggering a Swirl reaction, Kaedehara Kazuha will grant all party members a 0.04% Elemental DMG Bonus to the element absorbed by Swirl for every point of Elemental Mastery he has for 8s. Bonuses for different elements obtained through this method can co-exist.
Utility Talent – Cloud StriderDecreases sprinting Stamina consumption for your own party members by 20%.
Not stackable with Passive Talents that provide the exact same effects.

He has one of the most fun and versatile kits in the entire game thanks to his two-part Elemental Skill, and his A4 talent gives an insane buff for the whole party which can easily be amplified by investing in Elemental Mastery

Kazuha is peculiar when it comes to talents as most of his damage comes from reactions and not his skills directly. His preferred order is Burst > Skill > Normals, but focus on getting him to Lvl 90 as soon as possible. Also, leveling his normals DOES increase the plunging damage on his Skill.

Constellations

· Increases the Elemental Mastery of characters within the field by 200.

The Elemental Mastery-increasing effects of this Constellation do not stack.
3 – Maple MonogatariIncreases the Level of Chihayaburu by 3.

Maximum upgrade level is 15.
4 – Oozora GenpouWhen Kaedehara Kazuha’s Energy is lower than 45, he obtains the following effects:

Additionally, each point of Elemental Mastery will increase the DMG dealt by Kaedehara Kazuha’s Normal, Charged, and Plunging Attacks by 0.2%.

As usual with 5-stars, Kazuha doesn’t require constellations. Instead, they only make him even more of a monster. They are tempting but don’t worry about getting them unless you really want to.

Recommended weapons for Kaedehara Kazuha

Something that makes Kazuha accessible is how easy you can build him. Here are some of his preferred weapons. The new version-exclusive weapon Cursed Blade is a great aesthetic choice for him but sadly doesn’t help him with support in any way.

NameSubstatusComments
Freedom-Sworn (5*)Elemental MasteryKazuha’s signature weapon and Best in Slot if you’re lucky on Weapon Banners. Turns him into an even stronger buffer.
Skyward Blade (5*)Energy Recharge %Good base damage and a nice extra recharge so you can have your Burst up more consistently.
Iron Sting (4*)Elemental MasteryF2P option and the best 4-star weapon for him. Easy to R5 with the Blacksmith and gives him his so want Elemental Mastery.
Favonius Sword (4*)Energy Recharge %Another choice if you need extra Energy Recharge. Requires some Crit Rate substats to work better.
Sacrificial Sword (4*)Energy Recharge %Greatly alleviates Kazuha’s energy problems (if you happen to have them) with two uses of his skill.

Kaedehara Kazuha Build and Artifacts

You may want to use some of the extra artifacts you got for Sucrose to create your Kazuha build.

Artifact SetEffectsComments
Viridescent Venerer– Anemo DMG Bonus +15%
– Increases Swirl DMG by 60%. Decreases opponent’s Elemental RES to the element infused in the Swirl by 40% for 10s.
This set screams Kazuha all over it. Undoubtedly his best option by far, as it makes him both a buffer and debuffer.
Noblesse Oblige– Elemental Burst DMG +20%
– Using an Elemental Burst increases all party members’ ATK by 20% for 12s. This effect cannot stack.
Viable, but way less than optimal set. Other characters are better for holding Noblesse set. Use it only while farming for Viridescent pieces.

Desired stats

  • Circlet: EM
  • Sands: EM > ER%
  • Goblet: EM > Anemo%

For any Kazuha build, Viridescent is the ultimate set, and substats for Feather and Flower should always have Elemental Mastery. Energy Recharge is the second most desired sub stat, but others such as Atk and Critical are also helpful.

If you face problems with Energy, using an ER% weapon instead of changing your Sands is recommended unless you have Freedom-Sworn, as Iron Sting at LVL 90 nets you less EM than any EM main stat artifact at +20.

Again, it is strongly recommended to level Kazuha to 90 as Swirl reactions get stronger as you level your character (this is also true for other Swirl-based characters such as Venti and Sucrose).

Recommended teams and synergies

Kazuha has some advantages over Sucrose. While she mainly boosts Elemental Reactions, he boosts Damage directly as long as you swirl the specific element. So any teams with an Elemental main DPS get a huge gain from him.

His skills also have crowd control properties, making him useful for clearing domains or the Abyss very quickly. A complete character indeed.

Characters such as Ayaka, Diluc, Hu Tao, and Childe can hit even bigger numbers when buffed by Kazuha. Combine them with Bennett for even better results.

He’s also one of the best buffers for Electro characters, as they usually rely on their own numbers instead of reactions. For example, Kazuha, Raiden, Sara, and Bennett is one of the strongest teams for the Electro Archon, as all characters are directly buffing her.

Any team that can use Sucrose well can be used with Kazuha. He’s versatile enough to enter almost every non-physical team and still be relevant. Also, his Elemental Skill makes exploring easier. Be sure to use it in the Sumeru region.
