Genshin Impact: How to unlock the Altar of Mirages domain in Sumeru

Challenging domains in Genshin Impact is a great way to acquire valuable in-game resources. While most of them are easy to locate as indicated on your map, one-time domains, such as the Altar of Mirages (Behind the Illusory Curtain), require solving puzzles or taking quests first.
According to the game map, this domain is located near The Mausoleum of King Deshret. However, when you go to the location, you will find nothing but a sea of sand.
The domain’s name is Altar of Mirages, and it’s in the desert! So, you might wonder if it’s hidden in some optical illusion. Well, not really. If you’d like to know how to unlock this domain, feel free to read on.
How to unlock the Altar of Mirages domain in Genshin Impact
To unlock the Altar of Mirages domain, you must first complete at least the third part of the Golden Slumber series of quests called The Secret of Al-Ahmar. If you haven’t started this series of quests yet, you can do so by talking first to Bonifaz in Aaru Village.
This series of quests is filled with objectives that will have you solve puzzles inside mysterious ruins. Such quest objectives include “proceed deeper within Khemenu Temple” and “try to unlock the rooms located deep within.” So, this quest will mostly likely take a couple of hours of exploration and solving puzzles.
Moreover, in the ruins, there are mechanisms that will require you to “increase your clearance level” to be able to use them. You will obtain the Scarlet Sand Slate device and your first clearance once you complete The Secret of Al-Ahmar quest. This is the clearance level that is required to explore the area where the Altar of Mirages domain is located.
If you have already completed The Secret of Al-Ahmar quest and obtained the first clearance for the Scarlet Sand Slate, follow the steps below:
STEP 1: Go to the Teleport Waypoint indicated on the map below, and follow the path that we marked.
STEP 2: Once you get near the domain as shown on your map, you should find a door with a Plinth of the Secret Rites. Interact with it to open the door. Again, you can only do this if you have completed The Secret of Al-Ahmar.
STEP 3: In the next room, you will find a Dendroculus and a hole in the floor. Drop down the hole. This is going to be a long drop, so don’t worry if everything is pitch black at first.
Once you reach the ground, you should have arrived at the entrance of the Altar of Mirages domain.
