|

Genshin Impact has many permanent features. One of which is the Fishing System. Released during the game’s Version 2.1 update, it provides a new gameplay mechanic for players who aren’t in the game solely for battles.

If you recently started playing Genshin Impact, you’re probably wondering how to fish. Through this fishing guide, you can learn when and how to unlock the Fishing System, where and how to fish, the fish respawn time, and basically everything else you need to know about this feature.

Unlocking the Fishing System

If you’re fairly new to the game, you will have to go through quests and battles first before unlocking the Fishing System. This is because you can only start fishing after unlocking the Housing System and completing the Exploding Population quest.

Unlocking the Housing System also requires completing the quest A Teapot to Call Home which will only appear if your Adventure Rank is 35 or higher. That is something that we will talk about in a different guide.

But if you’ve already unlocked the Housing System, the next step for you is to go to Mondstadt and talk to Katheryne at the Adventurer’s Guild. There will be a short quest which is basically a fishing tutorial.

Just follow the prompts and speak with Nanuck to learn the basics. Here, you will finally be given a basic rod and some basic bait.

Later, you can collect additional rods themed after each region from their respective Fishing Association representatives.

Fishing Spots

You can fish pretty much anywhere you see bubbling waters and fish swimming around. In Mondstadt alone, there are eight spots that you may want to check out.

Below are the following spots:

  • Cider Lake – North of Springvale
  • Cider Lake – East of City of Mondstadt
  • Stormbearer Mountains – South of the Anemo Hypostasis
  • Stormterror’s Lair – South side of Stormterror’s Lair
  • Stormterror’s Lair – North side of Stormterror’s Lair
  • Windrise – South of the Statue of The Seven
  • Near Dawn Winery – West of Dawn Winery, across the small islet
  • Dragonspine – the lake, northwest of the Starglow Cavern’s Teleport Waypoint (Unregistered with the Fishing Association)

For more information about the fishing spots, we will discuss that in a more comprehensive guide.

How to Fish

After choosing a spot, rod, and bait, cast your line near the fish you want to catch. Once the fish bites, a fishing meter will appear.

The goal here is to press and hold the fish button to stay in the yellow zone and fill up the fishing meter. To increase the number of your catch, you may include Tohma in your party.

His passive talent “Free Fisher” makes successful fishing attempts in Inazuma have a 20% chance of scoring a double catch.

Fish Respawn Time

It takes 3 days for fish to spawn. If you already caught all the fish in the fishing spots, check again in 3 days to fish for more!
