Genshin Impact: ‘Baizhu will have a censored outfit for Chinese version,’ says leaker

Making his first in-game appearance in Chapter 1, Act 2 in Liyue, Baizhu is one of the earliest known Dendro characters along with Yaoyao. However, even with Sumeru’s release and the Dendro element’s playability, he has not made another in-game appearance yet.
This is quite understandable as the game currently focuses on the story that takes place in the newest region and the characters in it. But it still can’t be denied that Baizhu was one of the reasons most players strongly believed the Dendro element to become playable, which is the case now.
Thankfully, leakers have provided expecting fans with an idea of his release date. It was initially leaked that he would become available in Version 3.4 in time for the Lantern Rite Festival. But a more recent one says it’s going to be Version 3.6. Either way, the “fact” or the common leak that he is finally arriving to the game is great news for Baizhu fans.

Leaker says Baizhu will have a censored outfit
Following his rumored release, a new leak suggests that Baizhu is going to have an alternate outfit. Posted on the Baizhu Mains Subreddit and reportedly from leaker Waffel, the leak says, “Baizhu will have a censored outfit for the Chinese version.”
Another post on the same subreddit says, “Baizhu seems to have data for a costume.” However, this “costume” might not necessarily be a new skin similar to the recent ones for Fischl and Diluc. It is possible that this “costume” is the censored or alternate version that Waffel mentioned.
It can be recalled that Genshin Impact released alternate outfits for a few characters earlier this year. These outfits did not necessarily make substantial changes to the character’s design. Instead, they were created to become more “conservative” in response to Chinese regulators.

This censorship for Baizhu, however, currently does not make sense for most fans. While Baizhu can be recalled to be wearing a crop top and showing his midriff, he is not the only male character with this fashion sense. For starters, there’s the male Traveler, Aether.
Other fans believe that this stricter treatment toward the character might have something to do with him being a character from Liyue, a nation inspired by China. On the other hand, it is most likely that Baizhu and his pet snake, Changseng, are based on a Chinese legend.
Genshin Impact is an action role-playing game developed by miHoyo, also known as HoYoverse. The game is available on PC, PS4, PS5, iOS, and Android, while a release on Nintendo Switch is currently in the works.
