Genshin Impact Aggravate: How to trigger and what it does

In Genshin Impact, being successful in battles does not only require brute strength. It also requires a deep understanding of how the different elements in the world of Teyvat react with each other. One such Elemental Reaction is Aggravate.
The game has recently made the Dendro element playable, a term from the Greek word “dendron,” which means tree. The element is, therefore, associated with plants and flowers.
With this new element, new Dendro Elemental Reactions have sprouted, and considering how they work, they might thrive in the long run. Aggravate might be one Elemental Reaction that some Genshin Impact players are waiting for.
What is Aggravate and how does it work in Genshin Impact?
Elemental Reactions involving Electro are quite unpopular in Genshin Impact for several reasons. Aside from Electro reactions being generally underwhelming, they can be more disruptive than the others.
However, with the Dendro element comes a group of Elemental Reactions called Catalyze. Reactions in this group involve the Dendro and the Electro elements. Specifically, these reactions include Quicken, Spread, and Aggravate.

If you’re interested in Aggravate, take note that you cannot trigger it immediately; you need to trigger Quicken first. Simply put, apply Dendro and Electro to an enemy to trigger Quicken. After that, you can trigger Aggravate by hitting the Quicken-affected enemy with another Electro attack.
- Dendro + Electro = Quicken
- Quicken + Electro = Aggravate
If you would like to focus on having an Electro Main DPS such as the Raiden Shogun, it is also important to note that another reaction might be triggered if you have a Quicken-affected enemy. This reaction is called Spread, and it happens when you hit the Quicken-affected enemy with another Dendro attack.
- Quicken + Dendro = Spread
This means that Quicken does not deal any damage on its own (except for the attack you made to trigger the reaction). On the other hand, Aggravate deals Electro damage, and Spread deals Dendro damage.
Another interesting thing is that Aggravate and Spread don’t simply amplify the Dendro damage type. Instead, they add a flat DMG bonus that can deal CRIT damage.
Although both reactions add a flat DMG bonus and can deal CRIT, Aggravate is slightly weaker in way that it has a damage multiplier of 1.15, whereas, Spread has a damage multiplier of 1.25.
To summarize the Catalyze reactions, we have prepared the tables below:
QUICKEN
How to trigger | Dendro + Electro |
Damage Type | N/A |
Damage Multiplier | N/A |
Does it CRIT? | N/A |
AGGRAVATE
How to trigger | Quicken + Electro |
Damage Type | Electro |
Damage Multiplier | 1.15 |
Does it CRIT? | Yes |
SPREAD
How to trigger | Quicken + Dendro |
Damage Type | Dendro |
Damage Multiplier | 1.25 |
Does it CRIT? | Yes |
Considering these, do you think having an Electro Main DPS in an Aggravate-focused reaction team would be worth it? Or has the Electro element been deprived of its potential once again?
