A new world boss was added in Version 3.2 of Genshin Impact; here’s everything you need to know for how to defeat the Dendro Hypostasis.

The Dendro Hypostasis is a source of Ascension Materials for Nahida, the Dendro Archon, who was also released in version 3.2. If you’re planning to invest in and ascend your Nahida, you’ll need to defeat the Dendro Hypostasis a considerable number of times.

Read on for our world boss guide for the newly released Dendro Hypostasis in Genshin Impact.

Dendro Hypostasis world boss guide for Genshin Impact

The Dendro Hypostasis can be found in the southern Sumeru deserts. Much like the other elemental Hypostasis bosses, it is a fairly simple fight compared to some of the bosses in Genshin Impact. There isn’t a whole lot that you absolutely must know in advance before trying to fight it.

In fact, as long as you have a Dendro character in your party to complete the final phase where Dendro damage is required, you shouldn’t have too much difficulty with it if your characters are at a similar level to the boss on your current world level.

The Dendro Hypostasis world boss mostly uses attacks that result in area-of-effect damage indicated by markers on the floor, making it easy to evade most of what it can threaten you with.

One attack encircles the Dendro Hypostasis in roots and has it slam down into the ground from above in attempts to hit the player. There will be two small slams, which can be evaded simply by running out of the way, and a third larger slam that is harder to evade and may need you to dash to dodge it if you mistime movements during the windup of the attack.

Another involves roots stabbing upwards from the ground, which are indicated in advance and quite easy to dodge – this one includes a vulnerable phase for the Dendro Hypostasis immediately after the roots, making it a good time to deal damage. As the roots might chase you away from the Hypostasis, having a ranged character can make it easier to exploit the brief window you have to deal damage here.

It can also throw out small bombs of what seems to be withered Dendro energy, leaving a damaging puddle of it on the ground afterwards. This is one of the very few attacks that does not come with an indicator on the ground, but the attack is fairly slow and easy to stay clear of regardless. Following the Dendro bombs, the Hypostasis will have a vulnerability phase.

This particular attack is a common move at the start of the fight, so it’s one to get used to as quickly as you can.

When the Dendro Hypostasis falls to around one-third of its total health remaining, as indicated by the bar atop the screen, it will spawn a large circle of dark roots at the edges of the arena. The circle will have a single gap somewhere in it to allow you to escape the trap as it closes in.

There isn’t a set-in-stone correct response to this attack. The boss only triggers it when it is low on health, and it remains vulnerable for the entire duration of the roots closing in on the centre ground of the arena.

It can be an excellent time to go on the attack if you are confident in your damage, as this is probably the longest vulnerability period the Dendro Hypostasis has. With good damage, you can use this chance to knock the boss into the Hypostasis recovery state and evade the potential damage from the roots in the same move. If you cannot down the boss before the roots catch up, your best bet is instead to dive out of the gap in the encroaching circle well before it approaches the centre.

The roots will trigger a powerful explosion when they reach the Hypostasis, so it’s best to be out of the way or have a shield in place if you cannot defeat the boss during this phase the first time. After the roots collide with the boss, the other attacks and the root phase will be repeated endlessly until you deal enough damage to the boss at any point during the fight to activate the Hypostasis recovery phase.

How to activate Restorative Piths using Dendro to cleanse the Dendro Hypostasis

When reduced to around a tenth or less of its total health, the boss will use the typical Hypostasis recovery phase. As with other Hypostasis bosses, this results in a unique little puzzle phase you have to complete while the boss recovers to finish it off. If you don’t manage it in time, it will regain some health and resume attacking you normally.

During this phase, the Dendro Hypostasis will create three Restorative Piths around itself. They won’t do anything on their own, but they are the key to ending the boss fight. If you hit them with a Dendro element damage source, such as Dendro Traveler E, Collei Charged Shot, or any other method you have at your disposal, they will be cleansed.

Be careful about standing next to them, as the Hypostasis will occasionally throw out a withering bomb blob similar to one of his first phase attacks. These can remove the cleansed effect from the Resorative Pith, and turn them off.

Cleansed Restorative Piths will slowly fill up a bar below the boss’s health bar. When the boss is full, the world boss will finally be killed and you can claim your rewards.

If you can cleanse three Piths quickly, this may be enough to finish things up for you. However, if you only have one source of Dendro elemental damage in your team, there is another option. Like with other plants in Sumeru, these Restorative Piths can be activated using Electro if they have been cleansed already. Activated Restorative Piths will fill the bar at twice the rate of a normal Pith.

This means that using a team featuring a single Dendro and an Electro character makes the Dendro Hypostasis final phase much easier to complete the first time around. You won’t even need to cleanse the third Pith if you activate two of them.

Tips and Tricks for the Dendro Hypostasis

If you’re struggling with this newly added world boss, here are a few pieces of advice you may find useful.

  • Always bring a Dendro Character for the last phase.
  • Bring an Electro character to make the last phase easier.
  • Consider using a ranged DPS if you can – they can exploit the weakness phases more reliably.
  • Both Electro and Pyro and good elements for the overall fight.

While there may be more to consider, these few things stick out as worth emphasizing. A Dendro character is a requirement to be able to finish the boss off, so that shouldn’t be skipped out on regardless of how you want to build your team.

Electro characters are generally good for the boss fight itself, having strong reactions with Dendro, which the boss self-infuses and makes completing the final phase more reliable and less tied to timing Dendro’s elemental skills. Pyro similarly reacts well with the Dendro Infusion on the boss for bonus damage but doesn’t contribute in the last phase.

In fact, Yoimiya, who is currently available alongside Nahida in the version 3.2 limited banners, ends up being a well-suited character for this boss fight, as she can regularly deal Pyro damage to the boss to exploit the Dendro Infusion it self-applies. She’s also great for getting hits in immediately after it stops attacking and turns vulnerable, while a melee character will have to close the gap to start dealing with any damage.
