Chinese servers of Genshin Impact receives censored outfits

Following the announcement of the alternate outfits, Genshin Impact Chinese received slightly censored outfits in their latest update. Chinese players were compensated with 1200 extra Primogems for the inconvenience since some characters now had their clothes permanently changed.

These changes seem to be related to China’s heavy censorship laws. This wasn’t the first time where characters in Genshin Impact received similar changes, but that was the first time when the changes arrived on a single server instead of being global.

Censored outfits in the newest Genshin Impact update

The most glaring example is Mona. She’s widely known for the infamous closeups on her assets during her Story Quest. The censorship is toning down some of the most sexualized aspects of her design, and the same can be said for the others.

In the comments, we can see more images related to censorship. A Twitter user provided us with an updated picture of Mona. Her suit looks more like a swimsuit now, somewhat fitting her aquatic theme.

Jean and Rosaria, who’ll also receive alternate outfits, also received changes. Jean’s chest is now covered, and Rosaria’s not using her fishnets anymore. No changes have been noted on Amber. The censored outfits are probably not hitting the overseas servers.

Rosaria was one of the characters that were previously censored, as her breasts were reduced since her original debut in the 1.2 version. The other character known to be censored was Ayaka, who used to reveal her panties during some of her animations.

Other images and leaks claiming that characters like Raiden, Yoimiya and Xiao also received censored outfits are fake. Currently, there’s no censored character in the game’s beta, and we don’t know if we’ll even see any censored outfit going into it before entering the game. Censored character

Censorship laws in China are very heavy, so it was actually impressive how miHoYo didn’t have to do any of these changes earlier. But from now on, it wouldn’t be strange if we start to see less appealing designs, especially for female characters.
