Fortnite: Preferred item slots coming in the 17.20 update

Fortnite Chapter 2 Season 7 is one of the most fun seasons we’ve seen throughout Chapter 2, except maybe Season 2 and 4. Aliens have taken over the Fortnite island and there are many new and fun items to use such as the Inflate-A-Bull, which has a Chapter 1 feel to it, it is starting to feel like old school Fortnite once again.

Epic Games has been on their summer holidays over the last few weeks, but they are back hard at work to bring us new content and this new feature that is coming in the 17.20 update is one many fans have asked for.

Preferred Item Slots Are Coming To The Game

If you’re like me, you probably have a set position for each weapon or item that you use. I typically put the Assault Rifle in slot 1, Shotgun in slot 2, SMG in slot 3, Sniper Rifle/Rocket Launcher/Utility in slot 4, and heals in slot 5. I also sometimes swap the SMG for slot 4 items if I need to carry two lots of heals or a utility item too.

When you start a match you land with no weapons so usually grab the first thing you can find to take down your opponents. This usually results in players reorganizing their loadout, something that can prove very dangerous in the early game, but if your muscle memory has you press slot 1 for an Assault Rifle then needs must.

Prominent Fortnite leaker @Guille_GAG has revealed that, after months of fans requesting it be added to the game, preferred item slots will be coming to the game in the 17.20 update.

This means that in the in-game lobby players can choose which weapons they want to go in which slots, and then when you pick that weapon up, assuming there isn’t something in that slot, it will automatically be placed there, meaning you won’t accidentally try and throw a Mini at an opponent rather than pull out your Shotgun, we’ve all done it.

17.20 Update

In addition to the new preferred item slots feature, there have been many leaks that we can expect to see in the 17.20 update, or at some point soon after.

An underground POI has been leaked and is expected to come to the game soon. There has been a tunnel that is closed throughout the entirety of Chapter 2, this can be found just east of Catty Corner, could we finally see the tunnel open in the next update?

The Mothership UFO has been circling the Fortnite island since the start of Season 7 and is expected to stop over Coral Castle, leading to an in-game event that will see its destruction and a new POI will be placed there in Season 8.

And we will continue to see Aliens take over POIs in the game. Currently, Holly Hatchery has been taken over by the Aliens and low gravity areas have appeared. It is expected that Weeping Woods, Lazy Lake, and Retail Row will soon be overrun by Aliens in the coming weeks.

We can also expect to see many brand new skins added to the game. Recently we saw NBA legend LeBron James come to the game to celebrate the release of Space Jam: A New Legacy.
