With approximately 350 million players, Fortnite is undeniably one of the most popular battle royale games.

However, no matter how popular or enjoyable a game is, you sometimes find yourself having to do something in the real world such as attending to your pet’s emergency situations or having the need to get some grub. Or you simply just want to take a break.

If you’re playing on your own, you can just stop playing for a while—duh! But what if you’re playing with friends and you just need to step away from a match or two?

In this situation, you simply need to “sit out” and you can easily rejoin your friends later.

Steps on Sitting Out of a Match

Fortnite allows you to sit out of a match as your friends continue to enter matches without removing you from the party. This also means that you will remain online while you enjoy your pizza or check out what your dog has been chewing on for some time.

Moreover, this feature is available to all players online regardless of platform—Nintendo Switch, PC, PlayStation, or Xbox.

How do you do this? Below are the steps:

  1. While in the Lobby prior to a match, enter the game’s social panel by pressing “+” on Nintendo Switch, Escape on PC, and the Option Button on PlayStation and Xbox
  1. Choose the In Party option.
  1. Go to Participation
  1. Choose Sitting Out instead of Playing

While Sitting Out is in effect, you can still talk to your friends as they play. Also, you may sit out of as many matches as you want until you’re finally ready to take down some enemies.

Obviously, this feature is only available when you’re in a party.
