Final Fantasy XIV: How to use Limit Break
Limit Break is a party-oriented ultimate ability in Final Fantasy XIV. Players will have access to this ability only when they are in a party of four or more.
During this time, a limit gauge can be accessed which will gradually fill in battle. Once full, Limit Break can be activated and will vary depending on the role of the party member initiating it.
Moreover, this ability has three levels, commonly referred to as LB1, LB2, and LB3.

Different Limit Breaks
Tank
The Tank LB can be activated by Dark Knight, Gladiator, Gunbreaker, Marauder, Paladin, or Warrior. Depending on the level, this reduces damage taken by a certain percentage for all party members.
Melee Physical DPS
The Melee Physical DPS LB can be activated by Dragoon, Lancer, Monk, Ninja, Pugilist, Rogue, or Samurai. This hits a single target with an enhanced attack. Depending on the level, the cast time and damage of this ability increase.
Ranged Physical DPS
The Ranged Physical DPS LB can be activated by Archer, Bard, Dancer, or Machinist. This hits all targets in a straight line. Depending on the level and the number of enemies hit, the cast time and damage of this ability increase.
Ranged Magical DPS
The Ranged Magical DPS LB can be activated by Arcanist, Black Mage, Red Mage, Summoner, or Thaumaturge. Having the longest cast time and a short animation lock, this relies on manual targeting and can potentially miss the target if it suddenly moves.
Healer
The Healer LB can be activated by Astrologian, Conjurer, Scholar, or White Mage. Depending on the level, this heals party members’ HP and MP by a certain percentage. Moreover, LB3 not only heals but also revives KO’d party members.

How to Use Limit Break
Once the gauge is filled with energy, you need to:
- Go to the Command Menu.
- Select “Limit Break.”
You may also set a hotkey by going to Actions and Traits.
Once activated, the energy is used up for all party members which means that you need to strategize which Limit Break to use.
It’s also important to note that you cannot use LB3 unless you have a Job Stone equipped, which is given to you at level 30.
