In the recently live streamed Letter from the Producer LIVE Part 66, numerous details were revealed about the upcoming expansion to the hit MMO Final Fantasy XIV, Endwalker. The Live Letter primarily focused on the changes and adjustments being made to all of the jobs currently in the game and the two new classes. While I’m not a master at every class in the game, I have a baseline knowledge of every class, enough to comment on the most apparent changes. Here’s everything we know about the new FFXIV Paladin!

NOTE: As the Media Tour embargo has lifted, extra info has come out about all jobs. While most of the information is still fairly accurate, I’ll be making a piece per “role” in the game to make note of especially interesting things we couldn’t glean from the Job Actions trailer.

As a disclaimer, all content in the video is technically subject to change, and Naoki Yoshida did mention that not every new trait or action has been shown in the Job Actions trailer. Additionally, my comments are based on a mixture of the content shown and discussed and speculation based on previous job knowledge. Without further ado, let’s get started! Here’s the Job Action Trailer for reference.

As the poster boy of Endwalker and the final job shown in the actions trailer, Paladin boasts some nice changes for fans of the job as well as quality of life changes which should make the class click just a little bit more with players.

To get the big reveal out of the way, Paladin gains access to a three-step combo after usage of Confiteor, the move which previously signified the end of its magic phase. Paladin truly has come a long way from being the full bulk tank, with three presumably massively powered moves coming after one of the strongest tank attacks already. Additionally, the damage of Requiescat will no longer be dependent on MP, which is certainly an appreciated little change.

The defensive side of the FFXIV Paladin certainly hasn’t been ignored, though. Early in the section, a new cooldown can be seen, one which I imagine will be similar in defensive strength to Sentinel. Passage of Arms also seems to have applied some kind of damage on the enemy. I’m unsure if this is something that will always occur, or perhaps just as a counterattack when hit during the effects of Passage of Arms.

While I’m not a master of the class by any means, these look to be the most important changes coming to Paladin in Endwalker. It appears the devs are fairly happy with the way Paladin currently acts, as this iteration seems to only build on top of the kit it already has access to already.

From what I’ve seen of the community’s reaction, Paladin looks to be in a fantastic spot going into Endwalker!
