Destiny 2: Potentially good weapons for Vault of Glass bosses

So you and your buddies are grinding out power levels for Vault of Glass and maybe you’re unsure of what weapons are good for the upcoming raid. Well, as an old man who ran Vault of Glass in Destiny 1, I have some idea of what could be potentially good in the upcoming version of the raid.

If you’re a Destiny 1 veteran, you’ve probably figured out what you want to use for the raid. You’re definitely on your way to bully Atheon. But if you’ve never run Vault of Glass, you’re probably curious about which Destiny 2 weapons are good. This will be a speculative rundown of what might be good in the upcoming raid. Suffice it to say, this is all an opinion and if you haven’t inferred yet:

There’s spoilers for the raid.

First Boss (The Templar)

The first boss (the Templar) centered its mechanics on finding its location and keeping it there for as long as possible. If you did this right and were able to keep the Templar from teleporting too often, the damage output could potentially be astronomical. As such, it was important for there to be a healthy mix of weaponry in the fireteam for this particular section.

Given that the Templar fight can be pretty hectic due to the number of enemies in the arena (and there will probably be champions here too), it would be best if some people ran some close-range weapons for mob-clearing. A good shotgun or submachine gun will work wonders in killing some of the tougher enemies that spawn here. It wouldn’t hurt to use a sniper rifle here as there are Hobgoblin Vex that will spawn on platforms on the edges of the arena.

For boss damage, you’ve got tons of options. Exotic weapons like Anarchy, Xenophage, and Whisper of the Worm will definitely do well for hard-hitting DPS in the damage phase. A well-rolled IKELOS sniper rifle can also be incredibly useful here because of the amount of time you’ll have to get some nice crit damage.

Keeping your fireteam alive will ensure you’ll get through this section fast, as it can be easy to mess up the rhythm of the fight if things get too crazy. That being said, the faster you melt the boss, the less likely you are to make any major mistakes if the fight takes too long.

Final Boss (Atheon)

Atheon, the main boss of the Vault of Glass.

Atheon really was a spectacle when you got to him. The build-up to the fight itself is great, as you feel the enormity of the situation when dozens of Vex spawn in the Vault of Glass. When it came time to actually fight Atheon, however, he felt even more straightforward than the Templar encounter.

The key here is positioning and weapon choice, as you’ll want to make the most of the limited amount of time you’ll have in each damage phase. When I ran Vault of Glass, every fireteam I’d team up with generally liked grouping up in the center part of the arena, as it was right in front of the boss. You’d drop a Titan bubble there, pop any damage supers and go to town.

That spot is perfect for snipers, grenade launchers, machine guns, and even rocket launchers. Weapons such as Deathbringer could also do well here, as you only need the projectile to be near an enemy to get the exotic trait to work. Atheon himself stays in the open fairly often so you’ll be able to land crits semi-consistently; One weapon that could potentially shine here would definitely be Divinity, as you can create a crit from a decent distance.

So long as you start the damage phase as soon as possible, you’ll definitely be able to have success against Atheon.

Glass the robots

We have tons of good weapons in Destiny 2 when compared to Destiny 1, and they have incredible perk combinations as of today. You don’t have to adhere to any suggestions made here, as you’ve got plenty of choice when it comes to nutty perk combos on specific weapons. Vault of Glass will no doubt introduce some good weapons into Destiny 2, so we will only only be able to clear content like VoG much faster and in increasingly creative ways.

Once, VoG is out, keep an eye out for a full fireteam of Rat King users. It’ll happen, trust me.
