Is Apex Legends on PS5? Next-gen release, leaks, and more

Apex Legends PS5 Ash

Respawn Entertainment’s Apex Legends is one of the best battle royale games out there – however, it’s so much more than that now. Apex Legends is also a hero-based arena shooter thanks to the recently added Arenas mode and there’s nothing quite like it out on the market right now. If you’re wondering if you can play Apex Legends on PS5, you’re not alone. Here’s everything we know.

Is Apex Legends out for PS5?

Yes, but actually no.

At the moment, you can play Apex Legends on a PS5 console – but, you’ll be playing the PS4 version of the game through backwards compatibility. This means you can store Apex Legends on an External Storage Device if you want, but you’re not getting the benefits of a next-gen title. Apex Legends doesn’t feature 4K resolution and there are no DualSense features to speak of.

That being said, it could be out on next-gen consoles sooner than you might think. The PS5 version of Apex Legends could be mere months away.

Shrugtal, a notable Apex Legends data miner and leaker, has shared the following with the world via his social media account:

In these images, there are files that relate to Apex Legends on the PS5, the XB5 (which is code for the Xbox Series X|S platforms), and the iPhone (which is a reference to Apex Legends Mobile). There have also been recent changes made to Apex Legends’ recognition of a DualSense being connected in-game. This isn’t solid, but the next-gen platforms have been out a year now and Apex Legends is only growing in popularity. Surely a native release of Apex Legends on next-gen consoles is on the way at some point, right?
