Apex Legends Olympus changes detailed ahead of Legacy Update

Respawn Entertainment has finally shared more information on the changes coming to Olympus in the next major Apex Legends update. We knew there was going to be a major overgrowth, but this is something a lot more exciting than some un-pruned plants!

Apex Legends Olympus Changes

Firstly, let’s talk about what they wanted from the updates. The Apex Legends blog post on the subject has been put together by Lead Level Designer Dave Osei, so you know it’s going to be good.

For the most part, this update is just all about making Olympus a bit busier. You can check out Osei’s quote about what the Design Team wanted from the upcoming season below:

” We knew Olympus launched with fewer points of interest (POIs) than our previous maps, so we wanted to tackle that first and lay the seeds for future content. We have grand ambitions for the future of Olympus and this season you’ll begin to see those ideas take root—literally.”

The Icarus’ Parasitic Plant

The lead vessel of a deep space fleet has crashed into Olympus and a parasitic root has begun to spread. All standard Apex Legends stuff, then.

As you can see in the images below… It has taken hold of Olympus at its core and there’s a new POI to be found between Bonsai Plaza and Solar Array, amongst others.

Not only this, but the ship itself has actually docked on Olympus. This is by-far the biggest change being introduced to the map and promises to block a lot of sightlines that were previously available.

” Before the ship docked, Crossroads was a sniper’s paradise with long lines of sight from Bonsai Hillside all the way across to Orbital Cannon. The Icarus blocks most sightlines, and while squads can still take advantage of the steep advantage from Bonsai, they’ll need to be wary when pushing into the vessel.”

The Icarus itself is also holding a few more secrets… Other than the giant root, of course.

Where’s The Best Loot?

There’s a new “Hot Drop” on Olympus and it’s the bridge of the Icarus. Here’s Osei with the latest:

” Throughout The Icarus are the corpses of some of the scientists who worked aboard the ship while in deep space. Be sure to take advantage of the leftover keycard that spawns randomly upon one of their bodies.”

” If you find the keycard, rush to the front of the ship to gain access to the best loot aboard The Icarus. Inside, players can also take advantage of the view to plan their next route. Be careful you don’t get ambushed, as other players can steal the keycard from your deathbox.”

On top of all this, there’s a whole load of minor tweaks being introduced in an effort to keep the experience fresh. You can find them in the Apex Legends Blog Post.

For the most part, these changes affect Redeploy Balloon locations and heights. The changes have been made to balance “surprise attacks” with “third-partying”. Of course, their effectiveness remains to be seen…
