Video Game Movies

It seems like every few years we get a new batch of movie adaptations of video games we love.

Video game movies are often seen as divisive by fans, but even the worse ones are still enjoyable to watch. Some would even argue that a few titles aren’t totally bad! From Super Mario to Silent Hill to Monster Hunter to Mortal Kombat, there is a video game movie out there for just about any gamer!

Let’s take a look below at 5 video game movies or shows we would love to see!

TimeSplitters

As we kick off our video game movies we would love to see, we begin with Timesplitters. This long-forgotten but popular fps game about war across time against a race of time travelers called Timesplitters had briefly taken the world by storm before disappearing off the face of the earth.

A game with such a ridiculous premise could be an equally ridiculous yet hilarious film about a couple of agents traveling through time to fight against the Timesplitters and repair history.

With a plot akin to the hysterical yet short-lived cartoon Time Squad, with blended elements from the 2012 21 Jump Street movie and some Rick & Morty-style sci-fi shenanigans, TimeSplitters could be a blast from the past that we never forget again.

Jak & Daxter

Jak & Daxter has an easily digestible story, as well as the unique visual appeal needed to make a blockbuster family fantasy film that’s full of film franchise possibilities.

Its characters are marketable (Daxter plushes, anyone?) and the setting has the sort of world design that enthralls viewers and makes them want to know more.

Of all the video games turned movies it’s surprising Jak & Daxter wasn’t already picked up as a film!

Jade Empire

As we get more movies, shows, and video games inspired by Chinese mythology, it’s easy to forget older titles that took inspiration from the same source.

Jade Empire was one such game and was truly an exceptional one at that.

Taking influence from Chinese mythology, history, and folklore, Jade Empire was a rich and engaging game that anyone who experienced it would never forget.

An animated movie or a show, similar to Avatar: The Last Airbender that doubles down on its source material would do very well in the current climate, and certainly kick-butt in the ratings.

Left 4 Dead

The Left 4 Dead games are critically acclaimed masterpieces as far as most people are concerned, and so it wouldn’t be a stretch to say that a Left 4 Dead film wouldn’t be just as loved.

Left 4 Dead is already a genuinely funny franchise with plenty of jokes and banter between the survivors you play as in the games, so with the success of movies like Zombieland or The Dead Don’t Die it’s not as if there isn’t already a broad market for this style of movie, and maybe even one to break the curse of bad video game movies

Heavenly Sword

Heavenly Sword on paper may seem like a typical action-fantasy story, however, in the hands of the right team, this amazing game could also be an amazing movie or even show full of high-octane action, visually stunning backgrounds, genuinely engaging characters, and a story with concise progression, and lessons to be learned by all.

Having someone like Genndy Tartakovsky or the team behind Powerhouse Animation would be the sort of creative manpower that could really uplift an animated film or show to new heights.
