Remembering DMX: The Resident Evil 2 Remake X Gon Give It To Ya mod

Today we received the unfortunate news that hip-hop mega-star DMX has sadly passed away from a heart attack after a drug overdose last weekend.

DMX, real name Earl Simmons, rose to prominence in 1998 after his debut album It’s Dark and Hell Is Hot reached number 1 on the Billboard 200 chart, eventually reaching 4x Platinum after selling 4,000,000 copies.

Seven more studio albums followed, with his last being released in 2015 titled Redemption of the Beast.

Songs such as Ruff Ryders’ Anthem and X Gon’ Give It To Ya made DMX a household name worldwide, and it is the latter that we’re going to be remembering today as the song became a meme in the gaming world back in 2019.

January 2019 saw the arrival of the highly anticipated Resident Evil 2 Remake, which saw the classic 1998 game, Resident Evil 2, reimagined with modern gameplay and mechanics.

Gone were the tank controls and pre-rendered backgrounds, even though we still love them, and in were modern third-person mechanics and a new take on what survival horror can be in the modern day.

One of the games main bosses is the classic Mr X character, a menacing tyrant dressed in a black trench coat and (for some reason) a hat. This was explained by Capcom to help him blend in better while he roamed Raccoon City. But with his sole intention being to kill people, blending in doesn’t seem like something that is overly important, but I digress.

Shortly after the release of the game, the internet did what the internet does and added DMX’s hit song, X Gon’ Give It To Ya, to the game every time Mr X is near.

Now, I’m not going to lie, this is one of the funniest things I have ever seen in a video game, and I have just been reminded of it two years later and it is just as hilarious as it was back in 2019.
