Since they got the first glimpse of Netflix’s new Resident Evil anime series, Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness, fans of the franchise have been in awe, making the series one of the most anticipated premieres of 2021, and a fitting release in celebration of the franchises 25th anniversary.

The series will be released exclusively on Netflix and will star Leon S. Kennedy, voiced by Nick Apostolides, and Claire Redfield, voiced by Stephanie Panisello, both returning to the roles after the success of the acclaimed Resident Evil 2 Remake.

In the series, we will follow Leon and Claire, who meet again in the middle of another disastrous outbreak, which can destroy everything they protected through the years.

Will Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness be Canon?

Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness will take place between the events of Resident Evil 4 and 6. More precisely, 2 years after the end of Resident Evil 4. After Leon successfully saves the president’s daughter and destroyed the Los Iluminados cult.

You can check below the series synopsis, revealed by Capcom last week on their official site:

”In 2006, there were traces of improper access to secret Presidential files found in the White House’s network. American federal agent Leon S. Kennedy is among the group invited to the White House to investigate this incident, but when the lights suddenly go out, Leon and the SWAT team are forced to take down a horde of mysterious zombies. Meanwhile, TerraSave staff member Claire Redfield encounters a mysterious image drawn by a youth in a country she visited, while providing support to refugees. Haunted by this drawing, which appears to be of a victim of viral infection, Claire starts her own investigation. The next morning, Claire visits the White House to request the construction of a welfare facility. There, she has a chance reunion with Leon and uses the opportunity to show him the boy’s drawing. Leon seems to realize some sort of connection between the zombie outbreak at the White House and the strange drawing, but he tells Claire that there is no relation and leaves. In time, these two zombie outbreaks in distant countries lead to events that shake the nation to its very core.”

Capcom also revealed, that more about the series will be revealed during the AnimeJapan 2021 event, where the title will be one of the focuses of the Netflix panel. AnimeJapan 2021 will take place on March 27.

Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness is set to premiere somewhere in 2021.

TMS Entertainment is the studio responsible for the series production, together with the series known name, Hiroyuki Kobayashi.

Kei Miyamoto, who previously worked on 2017’s Resident Evil: Vendetta, is in charge of the 3DCG animation.

You can check on Claire and Leon’s first encounter in Resident Evil 2 Remake, currently available for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. You can also play the title on your PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S via backwards compatibility.

Resident Evil Village, the most recent addition to the franchise, will be released on May 7th, for the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.

In the game, which will be a direct sequel to Resident Evil 7: Biohazard, released in 2017, we will once again step in the shoes of Ethan Winters, when, after the events Baker State, decides to head into hell again, this time to get his kidnapped daughter back.
