Xbox Game Pass: The scariest games you can play this Halloween

Xbox Game Pass Promo

It’s October, the leaves are changing, the air is getting colder, and Halloween is just around the corner, so what better time to play some spooky titles that are available on Xbox Game Pass?

Surprisingly, Microsoft hasn’t added too many to the collection, which is a shame considering now is a perfect time for them, but there are still some great horror titles on Xbox Game Pass to satisfy your fixing for fear.

How to buy Xbox Game Pass?

You may be surprised to hear this but Xbox Game Pass isn’t just available on Xbox. Game Pass is also available for those on PC with Windows OS.

There are three membership options for Game Pass, the first two are standard Xbox and PC options that sell for $9.99 USD a month. The basic passes include over 100 games including first-day releases and exclusive games.

However, Game Pass also has a premium option. The premium option includes the ability to play games on PC, Xbox, and Mobile as well as the ability to play from the Cloud. For all of that, the premium pass is sold for $14.99 USD a month.

Alien: Isolation

Creative Assembly’s 2014 classic is the first game on the list. Alien: Isolation shows the player the world of Alien through the eyes of Ellen Ripley’s daughter, Amanda Ripley.

The game has been praised for its deep and immersive environment. From the game’s retro-futuristic art design to its award-winning sound design, it is no wonder that Alien: Isolation was PC Gamer’s 2014 Game of the Year.

Dead Space

This 2008 survival-horror game may be a little old, but don’t let its age fool you into thinking it won’t send shivers down your spine. Dead Space has aged like fine wine in the thirteen years since its release with many critics citing the game’s innovative game mechanics for its success.

If you are fine playing a game that is a couple of years older then I would highly recommend Dead Space for any fear fanatic. Alternatively, you can opt to keep an eye out for the upcoming Dead Space remake, which we’ve talked about a bit already.

A Plague Tale: Innocence may not be a horror game in the traditional sense but it still has the ability to unnerve and creep out anyone who plays it.

Innocence tells the story of a french sister and brother traveling around Medieval France, evading battalions of French soldiers and terrifying hordes of plague-infested rats, a plot point that may strike a little too close to home in 2021 with the Covid-19 pandemic.

Resident Evil 7: Biohazard

2017’s Resident Evil 7: Biohazard acted as a sort of revival for Capcom’s popular series. The game returned to the series’ survival horror roots, something that had been shifted away from in RE 5 and 6.

Biohazard mastered the ability to leave players on the edge of their seats throughout the duration of the game, with the sudden jump scares and eerie atmosphere making sure fans never have a second to rest.

Five Nights at Freddy’s

Since Five Nights at Freddy’s initial release in 2014, the franchise has received an additional eight mainline games, three spin-off games, thirteen books, and a movie that is apparently still in the works. But for how oversaturated the FNAF series is, it still needs to be remembered how great the original game was.

The original FNAF game thrived on simplicity. You are a security guard who is tasked with keeping an eye on the animatronics at a creepy pizza parlor. You have a few buttons you can use to check cameras and close doors but that is all keeping you safe from the horrors lurking in the shadows.

Perhaps the true greatness of FNAF is how quickly you can lose control. One second you are checking out the cameras with nothing and no one in sight, and the next you are out of power with strange robotic sounds in your ears.
